If you’re looking for a thrilling dark fantasy series to watch this holiday season, look no further than Netflix’s Castlevania. With many of us enjoying time off indoors, it’s the perfect time to find something great to stream—and with so many options available, deciding what to watch can be tough. But Castlevania delivers: it’s packed with amazing action, magic, vampires, and thought-provoking themes about morality and religion. Seriously, you won’t be disappointed—it’s a must-watch!
If you’re looking for something to watch this holiday season, all four seasons of Castlevania are available on Netflix. Since its debut in 2017, it’s consistently ranked as one of Netflix’s best original series. The first season, though only four episodes long, packed a powerful and complex story about religious conflict, all set within a fantastical world. The following seasons – ten episodes each – continued the story, taking the characters on increasingly dangerous quests to protect the world from vampires. Here’s what the show is about:
The game centers on Trevor Belmont, the last of a once-respected family, as he fights to protect Eastern Europe from destruction by Vlad Dracula Tepes. With Dracula and his vampire army determined to wipe out humanity, Trevor teams up with an unlikely group of allies in a desperate attempt to stop the grief-stricken Dracula and save the world.
The animated series Castlevania is based on the popular Capcom video game series, but features a completely new storyline. The voice cast includes Richard Armitage as Trevor Belmont, James Callis as Alucard, Alejandra Reynoso as Sypha Belnades, and Graham McTavish as Dracula. Notable actors like the late Lance Reddick, Theo James, Jason Isaacs, Bill Nighy, Peter Stormare, and Barbara Steele also lend their voices to the show.
‘Castlevania’s Spin-Off Continues the Belmont Legacy

Netflix
After the popular series Castlevania concluded in 2021, Netflix wasn’t quite finished with the Belmont family. They released Castlevania: Nocturne in 2023, a new story set nearly three hundred years later during the French Revolution. This time, the Revolution serves as a cover for the villainous Countess Erzsebet Bathory, who is attempting to cast a spell that will bring eternal darkness to the world.

While Nocturne didn’t achieve the same popularity as the original Castlevania, it was still a success for Netflix, leading to a second season released in January 2025. That second season also performed well, but Netflix hasn’t yet announced whether the show will return for a third season. Fans of Castlevania are used to waiting, and considering the success of Season 2, a renewal seems likely eventually.
