Netflix Snags Robert Langdon’s Thrilling Return in ‘The Secret of Secrets’ Series!

After an eight-year hiatus, Robert Langdon returns as the central character in author Dan Brown’s upcoming novel titled “The Secret of Secrets,” set for release this coming September. Notably, Netflix has emerged victorious in the bidding competition to adapt this novel into a series, with Brown and showrunner Carlton Cuse (known for their work on Lost and Jack Ryan) at the helm. The character of Langdon, a Harvard professor, is renowned for his ability to blend science and superstition as he pursues solutions to some of the world’s most intriguing enigmas, as portrayed by Tom Hanks in the feature films based on Brown’s series.

Today, Deadline announced that Netflix won the rights for adapting the highly anticipated book, “The Secret of Secrets,” written by authors Brown and Cuse. Both will serve as executive producers and writers, with Emma Forman from Genre Arts, a production company run by Cuse, also taking on an executive producer role. The novel, which spans 688 pages, is set to be released by Doubleday on September 9th. As with previous installments in the series, Langdon finds himself in a race-against-time scenario, a recurring element in Brown’s works.

Robert Langdon, a renowned professor specializing in symbolism, journeys to Prague for a groundbreaking lecture by Katherine Solomon – a well-known scientist studying the mind who he has recently developed a relationship with. Katherine is about to release a book that makes shocking revelations regarding human consciousness and could potentially shatter centuries of deeply rooted beliefs.

However, a gruesome murder throws their journey into disarray, and Katherine inexplicably vanishes together with her manuscript. Langdon now faces danger from a formidable organization and is pursued by an ominous assailant rooted deep in Prague’s ancient folklore. As the plot unfolds across London and New York, Langdon frantically seeks both Katherine and answers. In an exhilarating chase through the realms of advanced science and age-old mythology, he unearths a startling revelation about a clandestine project that will drastically alter our perception of human cognition.

Robert Langdon Is a Proven Commodity on Both Big and Small Screens

Starting with “Angels & Demons” in 2000, Robert Langdon made his grand entrance into literature, garnering significant praise. However, it was the publication of “The Da Vinci Code” in 2003 that truly catapulted him to fame. Dan Brown’s engaging prose and complex plotline offered readers an alternative religious history that spellbound people worldwide, earning both admiration and controversy from those with faith, art enthusiasts, and even Tom Hanks himself, who starred as Langdon in the 2006 film adaptation. This cinematic portrayal further enhanced Langdon’s reputation, transforming him not just into a literary powerhouse but also an iconic figure on the big screen.

Two additional movies, “Angels & Demons” and “Inferno,” were released, and collectively they generated over $1.4 billion at the box office. However, a fourth film adapted from Dan Brown’s book “The Lost Symbol” was initially in production, but the project evolved into a 10-episode series for Peacock instead. Unfortunately, this series was eventually canceled not due to poor quality – although it received mixed reviews – but because NBC determined that the entire narrative had been fully explored.

Looking forward to seeing how fans react to Robert Langdon’s comeback after a long hiatus from projects. Will they welcome him back warmly, or has their affection for the symbologist waned during his absence? We’ll know more on September 9 when “The Secret of Secrets” is released, and we’ll keep you updated on the Netflix adaptation as further details emerge.
