Netflix is venturing further into the realm of reality shows by creating “House of Streams,” a unique interactive series that blends conventional unscripted TV programming with the dynamic universe of internet content creators.
For the next fortnight, eight well-known streamers and content producers will be sharing a house – a villa, to be precise – as they engage in a competition for an impressive Bitcoin jackpot, valued at approximately $108,800. The charismatic Nicole Holliday, recognized for her roles as host of significant EA FIFA streaming events and collaborations with Sky Sports, will preside over the event as its host.
The show offers an engaging, real-time interaction where viewers can chat directly with the contestants, making for a dynamic viewing experience.
Mark Holland, the creator and director of the series, shared that they conducted multiple rounds of global auditions with streamers over a period of two months. Each candidate was thoroughly evaluated, and the initial round of interviews narrowed it down to thirteen candidates for the second round. Eventually, twelve were chosen, but after the third round, only eight made the cut, with one additional streamer serving as a backup.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m one among eight finalists who collectively have an impressive social media presence of over 4 million followers across different platforms. Hailing from diverse regions such as the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, we are all set to take on a series of challenges and competitive activities in this unique show. The twist? You, the viewers, get to make real-time decisions that will shape the course of the competition!
The production of this project is overseen by Stream House Media Productions (SHriMP), which has support from the Malta Film Commission. Camelot Films brokered the agreement with Netflix and manages promotional activities. Luke Croft-Faulkner, as the producer, spearheads marketing initiatives.
Matt Hookings, founder, producer, and CEO of Camelot Films, stated that “House of Streams” is precisely what the entertainment industry requires at this moment. It’s a unique, innovative idea that has arisen from the perspective of an independent director/producer who was steadfast in his dedication to bring it to fruition. As online streaming services are reshaping influence and fame, ‘House of Streams’ signifies a significant shift in how content is consumed by audiences.
The format is creating quite a stir among streaming and gaming enthusiasts, effectively acting as a link connecting digital-native content with conventional TV viewers, according to its creators.
The show is set to premiere in the U.K. and Ireland on June 18.
