Netflix romcom series with nearly perfect Rotten Tomatoes score bumps Monsters from top spot

As a binge-watching enthusiast who’s navigated through the labyrinth of Netflix content for years, I must say that Nobody Wants This has truly stolen my heart! With its impeccable blend of romance and comedy, it’s a breath of fresh air amidst the sea of true crime series.

Although Monsters had been leading Netflix’s TV rankings since its premiere, it was recently dethroned by a newly released romantic comedy series and now sits in the second spot.

For the last few weeks, true-crime dramas and series about murder have been dominating Netflix’s viewership, with shows such as Monsters Season 2 and The Perfect Couple leading the way.

Despite the criticism surrounding Ryan Murphy’s recent venture on the streaming platform, it seems another show has claimed the top spot instead. I can’t wait to see what this new contender brings!

The 10-episode series titled “Nobody Wants This,” featuring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, has taken the top spot on the streaming platform, boasting a remarkable 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series was written by Erin Foster, who is best known for creating the satirical VH1 series Barely Famous with her sister, Sara.

Drawing inspiration from incidents in Foster’s personal story, Nobody Wants This unfolds around Joanne (portrayed by Bell), a podcast host delving into topics of sex and dating, who encounters and finds herself attracted to Noah (played by Brody), a rabbi.

The series follows a classic “will they, won’t they” romantic comedy structure, where the developing romance between Joanne and Noah faces numerous challenges due to their contrasting lifestyles.

In 2018, Foster encountered a scenario reminiscent of her own when she came across Simon Tikhman at a gym in Los Angeles. Unlike Tikhman, who wasn’t a rabbi, he was Jewish and shared with Foster that whoever he would marry must also be Jewish.

Though she wasn’t religious previously, the author chose to embrace Judaism prior to her marriage with Tikhman in 2019. The pair currently reside in California and have a 4-month-old child, named Noa, together.

“The sincerity and genuine feel of Foster in Nobody Wants This is part of the reason why the show has become so popular, as one fan expressed on X/Twitter, ‘At last, I can confidently say that NOBODY WANTS THIS is flawless. A romantic comedy that truly delivers on both romance and humor.’

A different individual remarked, “I’m not sure why it wasn’t done sooner, but someone finally paired Adam Brody and Kristen Bell in a TV series. Whoever made that decision, thank you! The show exceeded my expectations and left me craving for more. I desperately need another season right away!

And a third fan wrote, “Nobody Wants This is SOOOOOO good like I’ve been giggling kicking my feet the entire time.”

Currently streaming on Netflix is Season 1 of “Nobody Wants.” Meanwhile, you might be interested in exploring other Netflix series such as “Stranger Things” (Season 5), “Wednesday” (Season 2), and our roundup of other popular TV shows currently streaming this month.
