Netflix Has 80+ Games In Development

As a long-time gamer and avid Netflix subscriber, I’m thrilled to hear about the company’s ambitious foray into video game development. With over 80 games in production and a plan to release at least one new title per month, it’s clear that Netflix is serious about making a mark in this industry.

As a passionate gamer and loyal Netflix subscriber, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news straight from the horse’s mouth! During their latest earnings call, Netflix revealed that they have over 80 unique games in development at this very moment. Their ultimate goal? To roll out at least one fresh, new game every month, exclusively through the Netflix Stories app for all of us eager gamers to enjoy!

As a long-time subscriber and avid user of Netflix, I’ve always been impressed by their innovative approach to entertainment. So when I heard that co-CEO and president Greg Peters announced their foray into gaming, my curiosity was piqued. During a recent industry conference, Peters explained the reasoning behind this new venture: Netflix wants to make money, plain and simple. He shared that the global gaming market, without accounting for revenue from Russia and China, generates an astounding $150 billion annually. That’s an enormous potential market for Netflix to tap into.

Approximately three years have passed since Netflix initiated its gaming platform, and according to Peters, the company is content with the advancements made so far. We’ve established ambitious goals regarding user engagement and have not only achieved but surpassed these objectives in numerous instances.

According to Peters, the influence of Netflix Games on Netflix’s entire business can be described as minimal at present. He also noted that Netflix’s financial commitment to games represents only a small fraction of its overall content budget. In the year 2022, it became known that fewer than 1% of Netflix users have engaged with a game on their platform. The intention was always to begin gradually, Peters explained, but anticipation for expansion and growth in the future is present.

He explained that we have carefully matched the increase in investments with the corresponding expansion of business influence. This means we are being cautious about expanding further. The goal now is to expand engagement even more, to a point where it significantly affects the business. You may have noticed this pattern with us before – for instance, when we introduced new content genres such as unscripted or film, or when we adjusted our content offerings for specific countries like Japan and India. Through the dedication of our teams, we have reached an impressive stage in these areas. We constantly make improvements by refining our programming based on feedback from our members.

Netflix has introduced over 100 games up to now. Through these experiences, the company has gained valuable insights about what is successful and what isn’t.

“Peters mentioned that we’re improving our ongoing project to focus on the successful elements in over 80 games under production.”

The executive continued by mentioning that Netflix users have taken a liking to “interactive storyline games.” These games not only bring joy to viewers but also benefit Netflix as they are relatively simple to produce, according to Peters. These games can be found in the Netflix Store section, and some popular titles include those based on the shows Virgin River and Perfect Match.

From July onwards, we will be adding approximately one new title each month to Netflix Stories. Some of these titles will be fantastic originals like Emily in Paris and Selling Sunset. We have plenty more in store for you, including various types of games that are unlike anything you’ve seen before, in the upcoming quarters and years.

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s foray into gaming, stating that it offers an unique chance for viewers of a Netflix production to interact further with their favorite content in the gap between seasons. He even hinted at the possibility that a game could feature characters and plots that might influence future episodes or movie spin-offs.

He finds it exciting and unique that our company has the chance to engage super fans with games between seasons and beyond. Not only can we introduce new characters, storylines, or plot twists through these games, but they may later influence the show’s continuation in upcoming seasons or films.

As a long-time fan of both gaming and binge-worthy TV shows, I’m absolutely thrilled by Netflix’s latest announcements! One of the most exciting developments for me is the upcoming release of a multiplayer Squid Game game. The original series has been a global sensation, and I can only imagine how much fun it will be to play with friends and family, trying to outmaneuver one another in those iconic challenges.

One notable addition to Netflix Games’ collection towards the end of 2023 was Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a popular and high-profile release for the platform.
