Netflix is set to debut two fresh Korean-origin series – a suspenseful show, tentatively named “The Rat,” and a heartwarming romantic comedy called “Love’s Tangle.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned about the upcoming collaboration between Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu in a series, marking their first time working together. Titled “Field Mouse,” this show is based on the captivating webtoon by Ludovico and draws inspiration from an ancient Korean folktale. Intriguingly, it tells the story of a rat that undergoes transformation into a human after consuming clipped fingernails.
Actor Ryu Jun-yeol (“Revelations,” “The 8 Show”) will portray the character of Moon-jae, an introverted author who prefers solitude. His tranquil existence is disrupted when he realizes that his fingerprint no longer works to unlock his phone and his one friend mysteriously vanishes. With his identity and finances taken away, Moon-jae uncovers that a shadowy figure called “the Rat” has swiped everything from him, prompting him to embark on a journey to reclaim his life.
In a new role, actor Sul Kyung-gu (“The Whirlwind,” “Kill Boksoon”) portrays No-ja, a loan shark who also runs a private detective agency. Previously, No-ja had chased after Moon-jae for an overdue debt. Three years later, Moon-jae unexpectedly resurfaces, asking No-ja for aid in locating “the Rat.” At first concerned with reclaiming his money, No-ja eventually becomes deeply involved in the pursuit.
The upcoming thriller is set to be helmed by Kim Hong-sun, renowned for his work on series such as “Dear Hongrang,” “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” “The Guest,” “L.U.C.A.: The Beginning,” and “Voice.” Lee Jae-gon, the writer behind “Special Affairs Team TEN” and “A Model Family,” is responsible for penning the script. This production is a collaboration between Kakao Entertainment, CJES Studio, and H.House.
In a recent update, Netflix announced that filming has commenced for “Lovestuck,” a romantic comedy. This project reunites director Kim Jang-han, who is known for films like “Do You Like Brahms?” and “My Demon,” with writer Mo Ji-hye, whose credits include “You Raise Me Up.” After a gap of four years, they are collaborating once again. The show stars Jung Hae-in, who has previously worked on productions such as “Something in the Rain,” “One Spring Night,” and “Mom’s Friend’s Son,” alongside Ha-young from “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.
Ha-young takes on the role of Eun-sae, a driven prosecutor with a reputation for speed, accuracy, and intelligence. She finds herself in a predicament when she loses her memory while chasing after a criminal network. Meanwhile, Jung Hae-in plays Jang Tae-ha, a former boxing prodigy turned gang member who yearns for redemption by coaching in a small town. While on his last mission, he encounters Eun-sae, his long-forgotten first love, who has forgotten their past. To shield her, he devises a deception that could drastically alter their lives.
“Lovestuck” is produced by Studio S and distributed by Netflix.
