The series “Nepobaby,” which is Norway’s entry to Canneseries competition and is overseen by Henriette Steenstrup (“Pørni”) and Siri Seljeseth (“Young & Promising”), has been acquired by Be.tv for Belgium and RÚV for Iceland. This news was announced by sales company Oble as the French series festival, taking place from April 24-29, gained momentum.
In “Never Grow Up,” actress Vivild Falk Berg portrays Emma, a woman whose ordinary existence is turned upside down after uncovering her inheritance as part of one of Norway’s longest-standing and affluent shipping empires.
In a surprising turn of events, her long-lost father, who had just passed away, had clandestinely included her in his will and the family business. However, not all of her newly found siblings are thrilled about this development. In the upcoming series, Steenstrup portrays one of these siblings alongside Nicolai Cleve Broch known for “The Sandhamn Murders”, Kristin Grue from “Countrymen” and Helle Ryg Eia from “Peak TV”.
Everyone is anticipated to walk on the pink carpet on April 26 for a sneak preview of the first two episodes of the series, alongside co-creator Seljeseth, co-directors Gunnar Vikene and Hallvar Witzø, as well as producer Ida Håndlykken Kvernstrøm from Eldorado Content Club.
Oble’s co-founder Katia Sol stated that since “Nepobaby” is currently in post-production, it presents an exceptional opportunity for attendees of the premiere to preview the series ahead of time at the iconic Palais des Festivals in Cannes!
We’re thrilled to share that our series will be available for sale in Belgium through Be tv, who are eagerly anticipating its premiere. As Alexandrine Duez, the head of programs, puts it, ‘You can pick your friends but not your family,’ a saying that rings true in this captivating drama-comedy. It masterfully blends characters you love to despise with a business setting.
Other broadcasters on board include main commissioner TV2 Norway, as well as Iceland’s RÚV.
Nordisk Film, responsible for Nordic distribution, closed pre-sales for the Icelandic public channel. Sol, currently engaged in talks across Europe and North America, hinted at more upcoming deals. She emphasized that the preparation of a second season is a significant selling point for the show.
Hey there, EbMaster! I’ve been really excited to chat about “Nepobaby” with you. You see, the inspiration for this series struck me when I was keen on penning a project tailored for the rising talent, Falk Berg – my daughter’s character in the successful comedy “Pørni”. Vivild is simply incredible; she can be hilariously funny one moment and deeply emotional the next. The title, “Nepobaby”, is a term commonly used in Norway to refer to offspring of affluent individuals, which I thought perfectly encapsulated the show’s themes. Hope you enjoy it!
A personal family inheritance dispute served as another source of inspiration. “It’s essentially about the bonds within a family, inheritance matters, and how wealth can impact both oneself and others,” remarked the acclaimed actor and scribe, recognized for her talent in blending humor with heartfelt drama that tackles relevant themes subtly.
The six-parter is due to premiere on TV2 Norway later in October.
The initial television series approved by Eldorado Content Club, established in 2022 by Steenstrup along with producers Håndlykken Kvernstrøm and Bård Fjulsrud (previously associated with Monster Scripted), is titled “Nepobaby.
The popular group’s beloved song “Pørni” will air for the last time in its fifth and concluding season on Netflix, starting from May 15.
Initially, Seasons 1, 2, and 3 were created by Monster Scripted exclusively for Viaplay. Later, Netflix commissioned additional two seasons. Now, all seasons can be found on Netflix.
