Get hold of an Orbitz bottle, as Neon is now the owner of the rights for ‘Nirvana the Band the Show: The Movie.’
EbMaster verified the news following Neon’s hint at the acquisition, which was subtly suggested in a mysterious social media post. The post included an image of an Orbitz bottle, a Canadian drink from the ’90s that is no longer carbonated and flavored with fruit, along with the caption “IYKYK,” which stands for “If You Know, You Know.
The comedic time-travel movie, “Nirvanna the Band the Show,” features its creators, Canadians Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol, reprising their roles as musicians Matt and Jay. Just like in their TV series that ran from 2017 to 2018, their goal remains to perform a concert at Toronto’s Rivoli, despite never having written or recorded any songs. Orbitz plays an essential role in Matt and Jay’s adventure without revealing the details. Johnson, who co-wrote the script with McCarroll, also directs this film based on their mockumentary series.
Peter Debruge, the leading film critic for EbMaster, declared the movie to be “unquestionably the most outrageous film of the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival.” He further noted that while the film is undeniably funny, there’s an additional layer of amusement in appreciating how astonishing it is that such a film even exists, with viewers marveling at the sheer skill it took to bring it to life.
Previously, Johnson caused quite an impact at film festivals with the 2023 dramedy titled “BlackBerry”, and it was McCarrol who provided the musical score for this production.
