Neil Druckmann Clarifies Comments on The Last Of Us 3

Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog has caused a stir among fans by suggesting that they shouldn’t expect The Last of Us 3. However, in a recent statement, he explained that for any project to be released, numerous factors need to align perfectly, which means he can’t guarantee the development of future installments in The Last of Us series.

To E! News (CTV’s Etalk equivalent), Druckmann expressed that for every project he takes on, he approaches it as if it might be his last. He pours all of his energy and resources into it, leaving no stone unturned.

He mentioned that during the creation of the original Last of Us, he approached it with uncertainty about whether there would be a sequel. He believed it needed a conclusive ending. Similarly, while working on Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part II, he expressed doubt about having another opportunity to work on these series, as they too required definitive endings.

In an interview, Neil Druckmann mentioned that the conclusion in The Last of Us: Part II is a direction he has been aiming for within the broader series, regardless of whether it concludes with a TV adaptation or another installment.

To have another [game/thing/project], numerous factors must fall into place, so it’s not something I can promise. At the moment, my attention is solely on this season, and if HBO renews us for a next one, then we’ll move forward. Meanwhile, I am also working on a new game titled “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.” One project at a time, as he explained.

It appears that “Intergalactic” won’t be launched before 2027 at the earliest. Consequently, if there’s a third installment of “The Last of Us” or any other subsequent game in the series, fans should not anticipate playing it anytime soon.

In a week from now, on Sunday, April 13, The Last of Us Season 2 will make its debut on HBO. This season consists of seven episodes in total. While some events from The Last of Us: Part II are featured, not all of them are included. HBO has hinted that there could potentially be up to four seasons for the show in the future.
