Neighbors Suburban Warfare Beginner’s Guide [Playtest]

Hey there fellow gamer! If you’re on the hunt for a chill, laid-back PvP experience that differs from the usual high-intensity FPS games, I’d highly recommend giving Neighbors: Suburban Warfare a try. It’s a hero shooter where teams fight to protect their homes and destroy the enemy base in a whimsical suburban setting. Here’s a beginner’s guide that covers all the characters, gameplay mechanics, and other essential details!

Complete Beginner’s Guide to Neighbors Suburban Warfare

In Neighbors Suburban Warfare, as you may recall, your goal is to damage crucial items in the opposing team’s residence while ensuring that your own remains intact. The game is set to launch on April 17 of this year, which means it’s quickly approaching.

How to win in Neighbors Suburban Warfare – Items to destroy

Each house has four items in four different sections of the building:

  • Living Room – Television
  • Kitchen – Stove/Range
  • Bathroom – Toilet Seat
  • Bedroom – Bed

The team that successfully eliminates all four of their adversary’s equipment first emerges triumphant. To accomplish this, you’ll need to breach their defenses, demolish the entry points (doors or windows) initially, and then overturn any obstacles. However, keep in mind that it won’t be a walk in the park; your opponents will also be vying for victory and you’ll have to protect your possessions simultaneously. Moreover, brace yourself for potential hand-to-hand combat with the adversaries.

Best Neighbors to play with – Ranking all characters

The creators of Neighbors Suburban Warfare have taken care to keep things straightforward in the game, so the characters are relatively simple to grasp. Although many characters specialize in melee combat, some excel more as healers, while others function as attackers.

Experiment with various options and select the ones that complement your gameplay style most effectively. It’s crucial to assign roles and choose diverse characters for your team so you can both defend and attack concurrently. To clarify, here is my ranking of the neighbors in the game, from favorite to least preferred, based on initial impressions.

Are there cosmetics in the game?

Yes, in Neighbors Suburban Warfare, you’ll find an array of character and weapon skins available. You can buy these and customize your characters in the Neighbors menu, specifically under the Appearance section. Interestingly, each character also has a special “golden” skin (as shown in the second image) that becomes accessible once you reach level 20 with that particular character, without any additional cost.

How do Perks work in Neighbors?

Instead of having a traditional skill tree, the game offers a variety of Perks that become available as your hero levels up. Each character can carry two types of Perks: Neighbor-Specific and General. As the names suggest, the former is exclusive to the specific character while the latter applies to all characters. Choose the Perks that align with your preferred strategy in the game, whether it’s offense or defense.

How to Defend in Neighbors Suburban Warfare

At the start of the game, your initial objective should be reinforcing your defenses to ward off potential attacks by adversaries.

  • Use Barricades lying around to fortify windows and fences.
  • Pick up Bear Traps in the garage and place them around the house to stun affected enemies.
  • Collect Resource Crates from the construction site nearby and deposit them at the Shop to upgrade your fencing and gain access to new items in the buy menu.
  • Purchase new items from the shop to improve your defense and attack.

Use the savings you’ve accumulated over time to invest in the Shop for better defense upgrades and new equipment acquisitions. The Shop offers various types of equipment for purchase, such as:

1. Upgraded Defensive Equipment (e.g., stronger walls, advanced turrets)
2. Offensive Gear (e.g., powerful weapons, special abilities)
3. Support Items (e.g., healing potions, shield boosters)

  • Utility: Includes an Oil Well that can earn you more money, a Hen House that produces Eggs you can use to heal and boost melee damage, a Ladder to climb neighbor’s house, and much more.
  • Defense: All kinds of traps, shields, and barriers to defend yourself and the house.
  • Offense: Attack gear that’s mostly effective against players.
  • Demolition: Attack gear that’s mainly effective against structures like barricades and doors.

Picking the appropriate tool for the task at hand is crucial; for example, a saw excels in breaking down objects, however, it isn’t effective when it comes to fighting against opponents.

How to Attack in Neighbors Suburban Warfare

As you work on strengthening your home during the game, remember not to overlook an opportunity to strategically target four crucial items belonging to your opponents to increase your chances of victory. However, approach this tactic with caution since even though you will respawn upon death, it could strain your team and potentially weaken your house’s defenses.

1) Be cautious around the nighttime guard dog, as it’s quite formidable in its attacks. In Neighbors Suburban Warfare, I’d recommend checking out two exceptional attack tools: the Orange Cannon and the Sledgehammer. The Sledgehammer excels at causing maximum damage to structures and can make short work of home items. Conversely, the Orange Cannon functions as a long-range projectile launcher, but its slow reload pace might be annoying occasionally.
