NCIS Star Rebecca De Mornay’s Secret Role Predicted a Black Mirror Episode Years Ago

Following the airing of NCIS Season 22 Episode 20, it’s quite possible that you might find yourself searching for Rebecca De Mornay online, trying to recall where you’ve seen her before. However, you may not be aware of a lesser-known role she played which had significant implications.

In the NCIS episode from May 5th, the team delved into the Nexus cartel and the operations of mob boss Carla Marino. They discovered a dangerous scheme involving stolen nuclear material. For this exciting case, they were joined by guest star Rebecca De Mornay, who portrayed the villainous Carla Marino.

Back in Season 22’s Episode 6, I made my first appearance as a formidable series antagonist, known as “the matriarch of the most powerful crime syndicate in the Midwest.” On the hit TV show, I rule over Kansas City, with a criminal empire that stretches into gun trafficking, racketeering, and drug dealing.

Throughout her acting career, De Mornay is particularly recognized for parts in timeless films such as Risky Business, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and Wedding Crashers. However, one significant role she played in an episode of NCIS that you may not have watched yet remains noteworthy.

Karl Pilkington cast Rebecca De Mornay in fantasy Black Mirror film before it happened

Absolutely, I’m referring to the memorable fan casting incident from Season 2 Episode 1 of The Ricky Gervais Show featuring Karl Pilkington. This took place way back in 2011. In this episode, Pilkington was given the task to come up with a movie idea for Hollywood executives, which surprisingly resurfaced in the 2017 Black Mirror episode titled ‘Black Museum.’

In this scenario, it’s Rebecca De Mornay that comes into play according to Pilkington’s account. He shared his discussion with Gervais and Stephen Merchant, stating he selected De Mornay and the character named “Clive Warren” (which is actually Clive Owen) as the main cast. Although they joked about a non-existent man and a woman who hadn’t been in films for two decades, De Mornay proved to be crucial moving forward with the project.

The narrative of Pilkington centers on a husband and wife whose lives are shattered when the wife (De Mornay) is struck by a vehicle, leaving her comatose. Doctors reveal that she can only live if a portion of her brain is transplanted into Owen’s brain. Despite the absurdity, Owen agrees, leading to Pilkington’s gripping two-part series unfolding within a single mind.

In the year 2017, the second narrative in ‘Black Museum’ revolves around similar themes. Nish, played by Letitia Wright, receives a toy monkey from Rolo, the museum’s curator, portrayed by Douglas Hodge. He narrates the monkey’s history, revealing that Jack, acted by Aldis Hodge, had agreed to transfer his comatose wife Carrie’s, played by Alexandra Roach, consciousness into a part of his own brain. This allowed her to feel his bodily sensations and communicate with him.

Does the tale remind you of something? Indeed, it diverges significantly from Pilkington’s narrative, leading Carrie’s consciousness to inhabit a toy monkey, as Jack finds it hard to manage the complexities. Nevertheless, this didn’t prevent fans from spotting similarities to the De Mornay Adaptation.

One Reddit user suggested, ‘Charlie Brooker attempted to deceive by denying he was the executive Karl had met with, claiming he didn’t steal ideas but clearly did, both in the same Black Mirror series.’ Another fan concurred, ‘Karl indeed seems to have a remarkable ability to predict things accurately. The other day, while cleaning my kitchen, I found myself pondering his statement that we’ve developed everything necessary and now it’s all just excess.’
