NBC Orders Cheerleader Comedy Pilot From Liz Astrof, Jeff Astrof, ‘Cheer’ Alum Monica Aldama

NBC has given out a pilot order to the single-cam project “Stumble.”

In my perspective, this show is a comical depiction of the extraordinarily intense and high-stakes environment surrounding junior college cheerleading. Back in late 2024, I learned that it had already secured a ‘put pilot commitment’ from NBC, which means they were fully committed to bringing it to life on television.

Jeff Astrof and Liz Astrof are penning and overseeing the production of the initial episode. Dana Honor is serving as executive producer through Defining Eve Productions, while Monica Aldama, a renowned cheerleading coach, is also involved as an executive producer. Universal Television is the production company behind this project.

For the very first time, the comedy writing and producing duo, Jeff and Liz Astrof – siblings – have joined forces to develop a television series. These two veterans in their field have previously worked independently.

Jeff and Liz Astrof, known for their extensive careers as comedy writers and producers, are working together for the first time on a series. Although they’ve both been successful individually, this is their debut project as a team.

Jeff recently created the Starz series “Shining Vale” and previously co-created the NBC mockumentary series “Trial & Error.” His other credits include “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Grounded for Life,” and “Friends.”

Liz recently worked on the ABC comedy “Not Dead Yet” and as a consulting producer on “Shining Vale” and “Trial & Error.” She previously created the Fox comedy series “Pivoting” and has also written for shows “2 Broke Girls,” “King of Queens,” and “Raising Hope.”

Jeff Astrof is represented by both Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham. Meanwhile, both Liz Astrof and Aldama have the same representation from CAA.

Over the past two weeks, NBC has picked up two comedy pilot projects. Last week, it was announced that Tracy Morgan will be playing a disgraced former football player in a single-camera comedy pilot produced by Robert Carlock, Sam Means, and Tina Fey. More recently, it’s been reported that Daniel Radcliffe will also star in this project, joining forces with Morgan. EbMaster shared this latest update.
