NBA player James Harden recently posted an AI-created video looking back at his career, calling the technology impressive. However, the video contains several errors, including misnaming him, misspelling ‘NBA,’ and showing him shooting as a left-handed player when he’s actually right-handed.
James Harden of the Cavaliers has partnered with Utopai Studios, and is now facing online criticism for a promotional deal. As part of the agreement, he released a video looking back at his career, created using AI technology.
He initially shared a more detailed post on Instagram about his experiences, but later edited it to a simple message: “Utopai’s new model is 🔥.”
This short, 69-second video attempts to show James Harden’s development into the star player he is today. Unfortunately, it even gets simple facts, like his name, wrong.
James Harden’s AI video slammed on social media
The video was meant to be a fun, Pixar-style summary of his experiences, but it actually makes things worse with awkward details. The biggest problem is that his name is incorrectly displayed on the back of his jersey.
Instead of displaying James Harden’s name correctly on his jersey, it strangely shows ‘Uno’ in one photo and ‘Piufiis’ in another. These aren’t names of any NBA players we know of.

Instead of calling it the NBA Draft, like in reality, the AI refers to it as the ONA Dran.
The video isn’t much clearer than the still image. There’s a confusing sequence where the basketball disappears as Harden attempts a layup, then suddenly reappears in another player’s hands. At the same time, two players in the background seem to merge into one, all while everyone on the court inexplicably wears the same uniform.
People online have also been focusing on James Harden’s shooting technique. Some have analyzed hours of game footage trying to determine which hand he relies on more, and in this particular instance, the analysis suggests it’s not his usual dominant hand.
Honestly, ever since Harden supported that AI-generated video of himself, people have been roasting him online. It’s been pretty wild! A lot of fans are jokingly saying that, considering how much money he makes, he could just hire someone to make a real documentary – like, a professional one. I’ve seen comments like “You’re rich, just pay someone!” and a bunch of stuff about how a multi-millionaire is using AI for his life story. It’s definitely gotten a reaction!
One viewer commented that Cleveland has a lot of skilled artists and wished he had collaborated with them instead.
“AI slop being pushed by my team’s starting PG,” another said with a broken heart emoji.
“When it showed the back of the jersey and said Pifuiis, I knew it was real and true.”
The video has received millions of views on Haren’s social media, but they haven’t responded to the criticism it’s received.
