This guide is designed to help both new and returning players get started with MyCAREER in NBA 2K26. MyCAREER lets you create a player and follow their journey from high school all the way to the NBA. We’ll cover everything you need to know early on to succeed. This guide focuses on the MyCAREER experience on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
In this NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide, we’ll cover the main areas you should familiarize yourself with.
Building your MyPLAYER – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
To start your MyCAREER in NBA 2K26, you’ll first need to create your MyPLAYER. While it used to be complicated, the player creation process is now much easier. You can fully customize your player, or if you’re new to the game, choose from pre-made builds based on real NBA players or those created by other players.
If you want to play a style similar to Steph Curry, select his player build. You can also tweak it to fit your preferences.
When designing your player, you can adjust their height, weight, wingspan, and skills. You have complete freedom in how you distribute your points, but I suggest investing in physical characteristics like:
- Speed – How fast the runs or sprints without the ball
- Agility – How fast the player can accelerate, move in short bursts, and move laterally without the ball
- Strength – Determines who wins contact battles. Additionally, helps dictate how successful the player will be when backing down or being backed down in the post (with or without the ball)
- Vertical – Gate for dunk animations, and in combination with attribute counterparts, allows a player to jump higher on rebounds and blocks
Every player, no matter where they play, benefits from being faster, more agile, and stronger. These qualities help with quick movements, winning one-on-one challenges, and holding your ground. Players who play center or like to dunk should also work on improving their jumping ability to grab more rebounds and make more blocks.
Badges are another important part of the game. Your player’s physical attributes – height, weight, and wingspan – will determine which badges they earn or lose. These badges come in different levels, and higher levels mean a more powerful effect.
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Hall of Fame (Purple)
- Legend (Red)
Before you finish creating your player in NBA 2K26, check out the badges you’ve earned or will earn as you play. The game conveniently lets you test your build first to see how it performs.
I’m really excited that you can scan your face right into the game now! The NBA 2K Companion app shows you exactly how to do it, which is awesome.
Play “Out of Bounds” – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
Your MyCAREER journey starts with the “Out of Bounds” story mode. This follows your MyPLAYER’s career, beginning in high school and continuing all the way to the professional leagues.
Out of bounds has eleven missions in total, and ten of them give you rewards for completing them. I recommend focusing on earning the VC rewards the first time you play. You can always return later with a higher OVR and try the missions again.
Out of Bounds lets you make choices that change the story. After Dion’s Open Run, you can choose to play for either the Union Elite or the High Flyas. As you progress, you’ll also get to decide whether to spend a year playing in France or Spain to improve your skills and create a highlight reel.
These options only change how things look, and don’t affect the gameplay or what you earn. You might just unlock different team jerseys depending on where you play.
Playing Out of Bounds is a great way to earn some VC, which you can spend on your MyPLAYER.
Explore The City – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
NBA 2K26 brings the action back to the City, where you can now build your MyPLAYER’s experience and progress even before heading to the court.
- Ronnie 2K
- Offers Rebirth Questline & explains how new Rebirth System works
- Art of Shooting Gym
- Train with Chris Matthews to improve your hot and lethal shooting zones with one of three drills. Each drill lasts a certain amount of time, with longer drills providing a more difficult challenge and better rewards.
- Gatorade Training Facility
- Upgrade Stamina, earn MyPOINTS, and get more by participating in these weekly workouts
- The Track
- A racetrack which offers VC to the best racer every week. While winning the top spot is practically impossible, it’s worth checking out at least once.
The City has several online courts and game modes to explore. However, if you’re already playing those modes, you likely won’t need this guide. Some popular options include Pro-Am, The REC, Theater, and MyPARK, along with many more.
If you’re only interested in the MyCAREER mode, you don’t really need to explore much of the city. But it’s a good idea to visit locations like the Art of Shooting Gym and the Gatorade Training Facility when you have time.
Career Beginnings & The Arena – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
Before you start playing official NBA games, your agent will talk to you about what you want to achieve this season. This goal will determine which games are most important. For instance, I set a goal to have my player do better than all the new rookies. Ultimately, pick a goal that sounds enjoyable to you!
Once you’re ready, go to the Arena to start your NBA journey. You’ll find lots of things to do there before the game begins.
If you were recently drafted, you might have to compete for a starting spot. Generally, this means getting a better Teammate Grade than the current starter for two games in a row. It’s usually achievable, but be sure to pay attention to how the game plays out.
Throughout the season, you’ll frequently interact with the media. What you say in those interviews can affect how fans view you and how well your team works together. However, these choices don’t have a significant impact on the game, and I always enjoy using them as an opportunity to praise my teammates.
The Arena also includes a Team Practice Facility where you can scrimmage and work on your skills. Visiting the Facility regularly is a great way to improve and progress in the league.
Gameplay – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
All players start with a 60 Overall rating in NBA 2K26. If you didn’t purchase the All-Star Edition (which gives you a head start with 100,000 VC), building up your player’s skills will take time, so expect a bit of a challenge at first.
NBA 2K26 offers different difficulty levels to suit all players. Pro is the standard setting, but you can choose an easier level if you prefer. Just keep in mind that lower difficulties will result in earning less Virtual Currency (VC).
- Rookie – 30% VC & 75% MyPOINTS modifier
- Semi Pro – 60% VC & 85% MyPOINTS modifier
- Pro – 100% VC & 100% MyPOINTS modifier
- All-Star – 120% VC & 120% MyPOINTS modifier
- Superstar – 140% VC & 135% MyPOINTS modifier
- Hall of Fame – 160% VC & 150% MyPOINTS modifier
I suggest starting with the Pro difficulty and then changing it as you get better. You can also customize how long each quarter is, which lets you make games longer if you want more time to play.
Since your initial player rating will be quite low, it’s best to avoid playing too aggressively. Focus on safe passes, setting up screens, and assisting your teammates. As you improve your rating and earn badges, you’ll quickly notice a significant difference in gameplay – moving from a 60 OVR to a 70 OVR will feel like a huge leap, and that progress will continue as you improve.
Earning VC & MyPOINTS – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
In NBA 2K26, Virtual Currency (VC) is key. Spend it wisely, whether you’re building your player in MyCAREER or collecting cards in MyTEAM. If you’re not planning to buy VC with real money, it’s best to focus all your earnings on a single mode, like MyCAREER.
I was looking for ways to get more VC, and I found a guide with all the details, but here’s a quick summary of where you can actually earn it!
- Playing MyCAREER Games (includes scoring, assists, etc)
- Redeeming certain locker codes
- Answering questions in 2KTV
- Completing quests in MyCAREER
- Online games & limited-time events
- Pro Pass Premium Rewards
- Purchasing VC separately.
You earn Virtual Currency (VC) by playing games in MyCAREER. Generally, the better you play – scoring lots of points, getting assists, and being a good teammate – the more VC you’ll earn. The amount of VC also depends on how long each quarter is and the difficulty level. But if you consistently score around 40 points per game with plenty of assists and steals, your VC will increase quickly.
To reach your player’s full potential in MyCAREER, you’ll need to earn MyPOINTS. You get these points by playing games, and accumulating enough will increase your maximum Overall Rating (OVR) by 1. This means even if you spend a lot of VC, you still need MyPOINTS to upgrade your player all the way to 99.
Season Pass & Double XP Tokens – NBA 2K26 MyCAREER Guide
While playing MyCAREER in NBA 2K26, you’ll earn XP that unlocks rewards in the Season Pass. The free Season Pass includes up to 80 rewards for players. If you want even more, there’s a Premium Pass available for purchase, which adds another 40 rewards, including virtual currency (VC).
Visit your Pass regularly to see what rewards you’ve unlocked! You can get free items for MyCAREER like Skill Boosts, better Accessories, and even a Cap Breaker if you’re playing on the newest consoles.
Boost your Season Pass progress by using Double XP Tokens! Activate them before you start playing NBA 2K26 to get the most benefit. Once activated, these tokens continue working even if you log off, so it’s smart to use them right at the beginning of your play session.
Additionally, feel free to check out all the rewards for NBA 2K26 Season 1.
That concludes our beginner’s guide to NBA 2K26 MyCAREER. We hope this helped you get a better grasp of how the mode works. While there’s still more to learn, this should give you a solid foundation of the basics.
