As someone who has spent years following and admiring Nayanthara’s illustrious career in South Indian cinema, I can confidently say that “Rakkayie” marks an exciting new chapter not just for the actress but also for Tamil-language cinema as a whole. The period-action drama, with its multi-language release and star-studded crew, promises to be a groundbreaking venture that pushes boundaries and transcends geographical barriers.

India’s MovieVerse Studios, part of the IN10 Media Network, is stepping onto the Tamil film scene for the first time with a movie titled “Rakkayie.” This project, which stars Nayanthara, is an action-drama set in historical times and represents Senthil Nallasamy’s directorial debut.

This upcoming project, featuring Nayanthara in an action-centric character, is planned for co-production with the Chennai-based production house, Drumsticks Productions. Notable for films such as “Yaanai” and “Imaikkaa Nodigal,” this production company will contribute to this film. The movie is slated for a multi-lingual release, targeting markets in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada languages.

In a place where justice is scarcely known, there resided a mother whose entire universe revolved around her child. However, when her daughter’s life was in peril at the hands of a terrifying beast, she did not run away or waver. Instead, she stood firm and vowed to wage war,” Nayanthara wrote about the film to her 9.5 million Instagram followers.

The creative team behind the project has brought together essential technical experts such as composer Govind Vasantha, cameraman Gautham Rajendran, and editor Praveen Antony.

MovieVerse launched in 2023 with a diverse slate.

Aditya Pittie, the managing director of IN10 Media Network, stated, “We’ve always sought to tell stories that resonate beyond geographical limits.” He added, “This film is a significant step towards achieving this goal, reinforcing our dedication to creating top-tier content in various languages worldwide.

As a huge fan, I’m excited to share that ‘Rakkayie’ is a film meticulously designed to break boundaries. It’s truly an honor for us at MovieVerse Studios to be involved in its creation, uniting the extraordinary talent of Nayanthara with a captivating story deeply rooted in cultural values, resonating with audiences far and wide,” expressed Vivek Krishnani, CEO of MovieVerse Studios.

Actress Nayanthara, affectionately known as “Lady Superstar” in South Indian films, recently graced the screen alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the movie “Jawan”. She has also headlined movies such as “Netrikann” and “Kolamavu Kokila.” The intriguing title preview for her film was unveiled on her birthday, November 18.

Production will soon commence, as “Rakkayie” serves as the initial step in a series of regional projects by MovieVerse Studios.

The announcement comes amid controversy surrounding Netflix documentary “Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.” The actor recently took to Instagram to address a dispute with producer-actor Dhanush over the use of footage from their 2015 film “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” in the documentary. Nayanthara claimed Dhanush denied permission to use content from the film and served her with an INR100 million ($1.1 million) legal notice over three seconds of behind-the-scenes footage. The documentary, which includes unprecedented access to Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan, who directed “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,” also features appearances from Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu, and Nagarjuna. It premiered on Netflix on Nov. 18.
