As a seasoned esports enthusiast who has witnessed countless battles, I must say that NAVI’s performance in the IEM Rio 2024 grand final was nothing short of phenomenal! Their absolute destruction of FURIA Esports with a 2-0 victory, both maps ending 13-3, was a sight to behold. The way they didn’t take their foot off the pedal even against MOUZ, who gave them a tough fight on Mirage and Ancient, speaks volumes about their mental fortitude and teamwork.
As Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports fans, we thoroughly enjoyed ESL’s latest event, IEM Rio 2024, which delivered exciting matches and some upsets from 7 to 13 October 2024. IEM Rio 2024 Group Stage Results
In their native land, FURIA Esports lived up to expectations in Group A, starting off with a dominant 13-7 victory over FaZe Clan in a Best of One match on Dust2. They followed this up with a 2-1 win against MOUZ in their first Best of Three encounter. To claim the top spot from Group A and secure an immediate place in the semifinals, FURIA Esports then defeated odds-on favorites NAVI in a Best of Three matchup as well (2-0).
In simpler terms, MOUZ bounced back from their defeat against the Brazilians, outplaying Complexity 2-0 in return. Later, they successfully reverse-swept FaZe Clan, earning them a third position in Group A. This triumph ensures that FURIA Esports, NAVI, and MOUZ will all advance to the playoffs.
In Group B, HEROIC left fans awestruck and astounded by their stunning performance. They started off by defeating G2 Esports 13-10 in the initial best-of-one encounter, followed by a clean sweep of Astralis and then Team Vitality, which secured them a place in the semifinals.
As a thrilled fan, I’m ecstatic to share the news: My beloved team, Virtus.pro, has clinched the playoffs spot from Group B! They outplayed Astralis and TheMongolz with a 2-0 sweep, an incredible achievement indeed. Unfortunately, this means that G2 Esports and Astralis were knocked out prematurely. But fear not, HEROIC, Vitality, and, you guessed it, Virtus.pro will be moving forward in that exact order. What a rollercoaster ride this has been!
IEM Rio 2024 Playoffs: NAVI vs. MOUZ Grand Finale
At the single-elimination playoffs of IEM Rio 2024, NAVI swiftly defeated Virtus.pro with a strong 2-0 win. Later, they faced a resurgent HEROIC and narrowly clinched a reverse-sweep, winning with a 2-1 score. The second map extended into overtime before the victory was secured.
From my side of the screen, it was clear why pundits continue to hail MOUZ as one of the world’s elite teams. They demonstrated their prowess with a thrilling 2-1 reverse sweep, leaving the home crowd stunned. Then, in an absolute masterclass, they dismantled FURIA Esports with a dominant 2-0 win, where both maps ended in resounding 13-3 victories for MOUZ.
During the final match of IEM Rio 2024, NAVI persistently maintained their momentum, triumphing over MOUZ with a score of 13-11 on MOUZ’s chosen map, Inferno. Take a look at Ukrainian AWPer Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov’s impressive string of four kills in the initial rounds of Inferno, which he achieved without using the Big Green weapon.
First, NAVI outplayed MOUZ significantly on Dust2, securing a commanding 13-2 victory. However, MOUZ managed to claim one map, Mirage, which is traditionally one of NAVI’s strongest maps. On this occasion, MOUZ triumphed impressively with a scoreline of 13-6, sparking hopes among fans for an upset.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “On Ancient, our comeback chances skyrocketed when we racked up a solid 10-2 lead.
Yet, as teams changed positions, NAVI launched an offensive streak, securing 11 rounds during their defensive phase to ultimately triumph on the map 13-11 in the IEM Rio 2024 grand final, clinching victory with a 3-1 series score.
