Naval Warfare Comes To Mount & Blade 2 With Viking-Themed War Sails Expansion

In a sea change for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, its inaugural expansion, titled War Sails, is set to bring naval battles into the mix, enhancing the immersive medieval action-RPG sandbox experience it offers, starting June 17.

In the vast expanse of Calradia, a fresh territory awaits exploration in Mount & Blade 2: The Northern Kingdoms and its surrounding waters. This new region is home to the Norse-inspired Nords, offering opportunities for trade, alliance formation, or conflict with these fierce warriors, similar to the other factions within the game.

However, it’s the naval battles that truly shine in this expansion. Here, players can learn the art of wind manipulation, enhance and personalize their vessels, and vanquish adversaries on the open ocean. Rivers also play a significant role, allowing players to navigate upstream to launch attacks on enemy territories, disrupt supply chains, and impose blockades on enemy ports.

War Sails offers 18 vessel options, each customizable with diverse siege engines, ramming devices, and sail enhancements. Victory at sea doesn’t solely rely on brute force, but also on understanding the game’s wind and water dynamics, skillfully disabling enemy ships by targeting their sails or oars to render them inoperable.

For Taleworlds Entertainment, this is a significant milestone: They unveiled the War Sails expansion while simultaneously revealing that Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord surpassed 5 million copies sold since its debut on Steam Early Access in March 2020. The game officially upgraded to version 1.0 in October 2022, and at the same time, it became available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

Twelve Kilobytes Entertainment announced that the release of War Sails will align with the game’s free version 1.3 update, and they have plans for additional free updates which include stealth and disguise mechanisms, negotiation options, enhancements to combat, and introduction of new weapon types. Further information regarding these features will be disclosed at a later time.
