National Hispanic Media Coalition Announces Cohort of Participants in the Series Scriptwriters Program

Today, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) unveiled the newest group of individuals selected to join their 2025 Series Scriptwriters Program (SSP).

A group of ten gifted female writers from various parts of the nation have been chosen for an intensive eight-week writing workshop. During this period, they will craft a unique television pilot script, either half-hour or hour-long. At the end of the program, their scripts will be evaluated by partners from SSP studios, such as The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, and Netflix.

The NHMC Series Scriptwriters Program serves as a springboard for aspiring Latine storytellers, providing opportunities for over 200 writers to enter the world of entertainment and share their unique narratives. During the program, participants gain practical advice from seasoned mentors, form valuable relationships with successful TV writers, and refine their abilities in story development and pitching. By fostering Latine creativity, this program is shaping the landscape of television.

Graduates from this program have gone on to contribute to some of today’s highly-acclaimed television series, such as AMC’s “Interview With the Vampire,” CBS’s “Matlock,” NBC’s “Chicago Fire” and “Lopez vs. Lopez,” Starz’s “The Serpent Queen,” Apple TV+’s “Acapulco,” and an upcoming reboot of “Bewitched” on NBC, titled “Something Wicked.

Brenda Victoria Castillo, head of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, stated, “The future of television lies in daring, genuine narratives, and this group embodies just that.” She further added, “This initiative goes beyond breaking boundaries; it’s about reshaping the narrative. Latin creators are visionaries, and their tales are compelling, timely, and deeply rooted in our community. By 2025, the National Hispanic Media Coalition aims to intensify its commitment to highlighting Latin brilliance and ensuring our voices are not just acknowledged but applauded on every screen. The industry is transforming, and Latin storytellers are spearheading the change.

The virtual program allows talented individuals from all over the country to take part in it from their respective locations.

As a champion of Latine talent, I wholeheartedly endorse the Series Scriptwriters Program. This initiative not only equips writers with the necessary tools for professional growth but also fosters a supportive community where we can brainstorm ideas, expand our networks, collaborate with fellow creators, and share industry opportunities among ourselves.
