On Esquire’s latest cover, Nate Bargatze shares his ambition to emulate a modern-day Walt Disney character for everyday people. When asked about his inspirations, he mentioned comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Judd Apatow, and Adam Sandler, as well as Disney. He explained that Disney was an inspiration because he cared deeply about his audience. Bargatze believes that Disney still maintains this mission, but feels the company may have lost sight of it over time.
Bargatze commented that the current head of Disney is more focused on business aspects than the audience’s preferences. He stated, ‘That individual doesn’t prioritize the viewers.’
Bargatze emphasized his deep affection for his audience, stating, “It’s all thanks to them that any of this is possible.” As he prepares to wrap up his stand-up comedy career by performing only a few more specials, Bargatze is working on establishing the groundwork for a Disney-esque empire, which includes films, TV shows, merchandise, books, podcasts, and even a theme park in Nashville named Nateland, to be constructed on the site of the old Opryland theme park.
When speaking about the proposed theme park,” Bargatze said to Esquire, “I’m open about our relationship being stronger than others might perceive. However, there’s still some distance to go before it becomes a reality.
I, being Bargatze, am getting ready to take on the Emmy Awards later this year – quite an exciting prospect! My popularity in the TV world stems from my successful comedy specials and my impressive hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live.” As for what kind of TV content I’ll be creating myself, it won’t be highbrow or prestigious, but rather more about bringing laughter and entertainment to the masses.
Bargatze admitted that he hasn’t seen “Succession.” Despite its reputation as the best series ever made, he assures us he’s not ignorant. Everyone acknowledges its greatness, he explains. He desires to watch it, but at present, he has not. His statement about viewership is unrelated to the show itself, rather referring to its relatively low number of viewers in comparison to the widespread acclaim it receives.
He went on to say, “Everyone leads their lives, everyone has families, and everyone has things they need to attend to. People aren’t willing to just sit and admire art for hours. It’s essential to find a balance between appreciating shows like ‘Succession’ and shows like ‘King of Queens.’ These types of programming should coexist. Nowadays, there are too many ‘Successions.’ We need something to refresh our perspective.
