Owlcat Games and Emotion Spark Studio have released their new narrative RPG, Rue Valley, on PC and consoles today. The game has received praise from the creators of Disco Elysium, Robert Kurvitz and Aleksander Rostov, who highlighted its unique art style and surreal storytelling. Rue Valley follows a man’s journey through his own mind as he tries to solve the mystery of a strange time loop.
In the isometric RPG Rue Valley, you play as a man trapped in a time loop where each reset alters his abilities and personality. You’ll retain memories between loops, unlocking new conversations, perspectives, and interactions with the world. Along the way, you’ll meet a memorable cast of characters, each with their own struggles and hidden layers.
The developers of Rue Valley partnered with Movember, a leading men’s health charity, to raise awareness about mental health. The game aims to use storytelling as a safe and engaging way to explore themes of well-being and what seeking therapy can be like.
Marko Smiljanić, Creative Director at Emotion Spark Studio, explained that they wanted to create a story that was both captivating and emotionally impactful, reflecting the everyday challenges many people experience. He believes the story will connect with audiences, making them feel understood and valued.
