‘My Lady Jane’ Canceled After One Season at Amazon

As a film enthusiast with over three decades of immersion in the world of entertainment, I find myself both saddened and intrigued by the news of “My Lady Jane” being canceled at Amazon Prime Video. While it’s disheartening to see promising series get axed, particularly those that have garnered critical acclaim, I can’t help but feel a sense of curiosity.

“My Lady Jane” has been canceled at Amazon Prime Video, EbMaster has confirmed.

The first season of the historical fantasy drama show was released as a complete eight-episode run on the streaming platform on June 27.

In this series, the following actors were part of the cast: Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Henry Ashton, Máiréad Tyers, Michael Workeye, Joe Klocek, Brandon Grace, and Will Keen.

The performance drew its origins from a novel titled “The Same Name,” penned collaboratively by authors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.

Prepare yourself for a captivating reinterpretation of the story: “Brace for the gripping saga of Lady Jane Grey, a Tudor noblewoman who ruled England momentarily before her execution in 1553. But wait! Let’s turn history on its head: this time, our heroine rescues herself. This is an extraordinary journey encompassing love, thrilling escapades, and a blend of action, historical intrigue, fantasy, humor, romance, and merriment. Hang on tight!”

The show was developed by Gemma Burgess, who held roles as both executive producer and co-head writer alongside Meredith Glynn. Additionally, Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw, and Laurie MacDonald served as executive producers. Notably, Babbit also directed five out of the eight episodes in this series.

Although it didn’t attract a large number of viewers, the show was highly praised by critics. In fact, its first season boasts a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In her review for EbMaster, Aramide Tinubu described it as “much like Hulu’s ‘The Great,’ a thrilling and humorous journey filled with magic, romance, and strong female characters who assertively manage their legacies.”

Deadline first reported the cancellation.
