As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of gaming from the days of simple pixelated sprites to today’s high-definition, immersive worlds. I must admit, I’ve always been partial to games that strive for realism and authenticity, like Modern Warfare 3 (MW3). However, my current experience with MW3 has been somewhat tainted by the recent influx of… let’s call them ‘creative’ operator skins.
In live-action games such as Call of Duty, like Modern Warfare 3, there are frequent releases of paid cosmetics such as operator outfits and weapon designs; these small transactions significantly contribute to the game’s earnings. Given that Call of Duty is a military shooter, some players have been discussing whether the flashy skins align with the game’s theme.
Will they ever put an end to these horrible designs? Please make it stop

In Modern Warfare 3, you may have observed an increase in flashy character skins compared to the more grounded military-style outfits. For instance, take a look at the Reddit thread where user animal-danimal shared one such extravagant skin. This post raises the question of when the developers will cease creating these “unappealing” designs, like the new CODFish skin in CoD that seems to be causing some concern.
Although heavily influenced by realism and battlefield action, Call of Duty caters primarily to a casual player base, functioning more like an arcade shooter. As Xever_141 insightfully noted, the popularity of custom skins among players leads to frequent releases of these items in the store. I share this viewpoint, and it seems many others do as well.
Others argue that if a player prefers a particular cosmetic skin, it’s their decision to purchase it; however, they acknowledge that such skins make the player easily noticeable from a distance in large-scale modes like Warzone. This could potentially put them at a disadvantage. Yet, many players might still opt for these flashy skins because the majority of gamers in this context are more focused on casual gameplay rather than strategic elements.
Simultaneously, some individuals express their concern over the expense of these designs – spending 2,400 CoD Points for an operator skin, two weapon skins, and some additional cosmetics might seem quite pricey to them. Notably, there have often been deals offering significantly better value at the same cost.
