Music Box’s Doppenganger Acquires North American Rights to Comedy ‘Heavier Trip,’ About Heavy Metal Band Impaled Rektum (EXCLUSIVE)

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for the offbeat and the eccentric, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Heavier Trip.” Having grown up in the ’80s and ’90s, I was part of the generation that saw the rise of heavy metal music and its subculture. The original “Heavy Trip” was a nostalgic throwback to those days, and I eagerly anticipate the sequel’s return to our screens this fall.

A movie company called Doppelgänger Releasing (which is part of Music Box Films) will distribute in North America the Finnish comedy “Heavier Trip,” directed by Laatio and Vidgren, featuring the return of the Heavy Metal band Impaled Rektum. Charades manages worldwide sales for this movie.

“After Heavy Trip, distributed by Doppelgänger Releasing in 2018, comes the sequel titled ‘Another Heavy Journey’. The original cast and team have reunited to carry on the tale of the world’s most perilous (yet endearing) heavy metal band. This includes Johannes Holopainen (playing Turo), Samuli Jaskio (as Lotvonen), Max Ovaska (as Xytrax), and Chike Ohanwe (as Oula).”

I’m thrilled to announce that the world premiere of “Heavier Trip” is just around the corner, with both theatrical screenings and home entertainment options becoming available in November this year. Can’t wait to immerse myself in this exciting new cinematic experience!

In the hardcore death metal group “Heavier Trip,” known as Impaled Rektum, finds itself imprisoned in Norway. While incarcerated, they learn about the severe financial struggles of their guitarist’s family. To help them out, the band orchestrates an escape and sets off on a trek across northern Europe, aiming to play at the biggest and most renowned metal festival globally – Wacken. However, they are tricked by a cunning record label executive and chased by a relentless prison guard. The journey is filled with numerous challenges, but their greatest hurdle proves to be maintaining band unity amidst the chaos.

“Laatio and Vidgren expressed their enthusiasm for a movie genre: heartwarming films featuring men who perform symphonic post-apocalyptic metal inspired by Fennoscandic paganism, involving reindeer, Christ, and war. They’re thrilled to introduce ‘Heavier Trip’ to North American audiences and anticipate making a significant impact with the sequel’s premiere!”

“Pierre Mazars, Charades CEO, expressed excitement as ‘Heavier Trip’ gets released in U.S. cinemas through Music Box Films and Doppelgänger Releasing. Their diverse collection of films, ranging from challenging arthouse pieces to popular comedies, proves their knack for attracting audiences to theaters. As a metal fan myself, I personally couldn’t be more pleased.”

Brian Andreotti of Music Box Films expressed his satisfaction in distributing the film ‘Heavy Trip’ and continues to wear merchandise from Impaled Rektum’s 2018 North American tour. He was thrilled to learn that Jukka and Juuso were developing a sequel, and he had no doubt about Music Box Films maintaining its leading position in the symphonic post-apocalyptic, reindeer-grinding, Christ-abusing, extreme war pagan Fennoscandic metal space genre in North America. It’s been six years since Impaled Rektum dominated North America, and he eagerly awaits their return this fall.
