Actress Marcia Gay Harden has been announced for the role in Season 2 of “Murder in a Small Town,” according to our exclusive sources at EbMaster.
In the upcoming series, I’ll be taking on a recurring role as Mayor Christie Holman in a mystery drama. This character is adored within the community and an expert political strategist. Despite being a dedicated doctor, she sometimes prioritizes her personal interests over the welfare of Gibsons’ residents. My character will add complexity to Karl’s (Rossif Sutherland) and Cassandra’s (Kristin Kreuk) lives by manipulating the conflicting priorities within the community to further my own objectives.
Most recently, J. Smith appeared on the CBS dramedy “So Help Me Todd” for two seasons. She’s garnered Emmy nominations for her performances in “The Morning Show,” “The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler,” and a guest spot on “Law & Order: SVU.” Her impressive career includes winning an Academy Award for best supporting actress in “Pollock” and receiving another nomination in the same category for “Mystic River.” Up next, you’ll see her acting alongside Sophie Turner and Kit Harington in “The Dreadful,” a production that has just finished filming in England. She’s also been cast in the upcoming Apple TV+ series titled “Margo’s Got Money Trouble.
She is represented by the Independent Artist Group, Framework Entertainment, Schreck Rose Dupont, and The Initiative Group.
The crime drama series ‘Murder in a Small Town,’ based on the novels by L.R. Wright, was renewed for another season in January. This season is now being filmed in British Columbia. In late 2023, Fox secured the U.S. broadcast rights. The show debuted in Canada on the Global Television Network in September 2024 and also premiered on Fox around the same time.
As a dedicated supporter, I’m thrilled to be part of the team that brings this incredible series to life. I, along with Ian Weir who serves as our head writer and executive producer, are at the helm of this project. Initially, Nick Orchard from Soap Box Productions, who optioned the Alberg books, joined us as an executive producer. Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia from Mojo Global Arts, as well as Jon Cotton, also took on the role of executive producers. The series is proudly produced by Sepia Films in alliance with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment.
In accordance with the official summary for Season 2, “Karl Alberg will persist in probing crimes not only within Gibsons but also in its surrounding areas as his territory grows, bringing about a heavier caseload and restricted resources. At the same time, Cassandra’s professional growth and community endeavors lead her to unforeseen paths, and Karl and Cassandra must find their way through managing these obligations alongside their growing bond.
