The Hulu series about the notorious Murdaugh family has added three new cast members.
It’s been discovered that Noah Emmerich, known for “The Americans” and “Dark Winds”, Kathleen Wilhoite recognized from “Gilmore Girls” and “Pepper Ann”, and Tommy Dewey, who starred in “Saturday Night” and “Casual”, have all secured roles in the upcoming, as-yet-unnamed series.
Originally revealed actors such as Jason Clarke, Patricia Arquette, J. Smith-Cameron, Johnny Berchtold, Will Harrison, and Brittany Snow have been confirmed for the series. This show is inspired by real events concerning Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, along with the investigative journalism of Mandy Matney, who produced the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast. Clarke will take on the role of Alex, while Arquette will portray Maggie. Snow’s character is set to be Matney.
Previously disclosed actors include Jason Clarke, Patricia Arquette, J. Smith-Cameron, Johnny Berchtold, Will Harrison, and Brittany Snow for the series. The show is based on the true account of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, as well as Mandy Matney’s reporting and creation of the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast. Clarke will embody Alex, while Arquette will play Maggie. Snow will portray Matney in the series.
The Murdaugh clan held significant power in South Carolina’s coastal region, using their legal and political clout extensively. However, over the past decade, they’ve faced numerous accusations of criminal activities, from financial fraud to homicide. Not only have they been a focus of the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast, but also several documentaries and news specials.
In the upcoming series, Emmerich will portray Randy Murdaugh. This character is depicted as rigidly following rules, standing in stark contrast to his unpredictable younger brother Alex, both in their personal lives and professional careers. Their contrasting styles have led to a long history of disagreements as they compete for their father Randolph’s love and recognition.
Wilhoite is set to portray Gloria Satterfield, a longtime, devoted, and caring housekeeper of the Murdaugh family for many years. Gloria played an integral role in raising Buster and Paul since they were babies. A deeply religious woman with adult sons of her own, Gloria selflessly prioritizes the needs and troubles of the Murdaughs over her own health and well-being.
Additionally, Dewey takes on the role of Mark Tinsley. A charismatic and intelligent character, Mark Tinsley is a seasoned prosecutor who shares a past as a hunting companion with Alex. Now, he represents the grieving parents of the girl tragically lost in the boating accident.
Emmerich is represented by both Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, while Wilhoite is under the management of AKA Talent Agency. Dewey, on the other hand, has multiple representatives: The Kohner Agency, Anonymous Content, and Myman Greenspan.
Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr share the roles of co-creators and executive producers for this series, with Fuller additionally taking on the position of showrunner. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund will serve as executive producers under their banner, Eat the Cat, while Matney also joins them in this role. UCP is the production company responsible, and Antosca along with Eat the Cat are currently bound by an overall deal with UCP.
