As a seasoned cinephile with decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that this week’s U.K.-Ireland box office lineup is a veritable feast for film enthusiasts like myself! From the roaring debut of Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” to the enchanting continuation of Universal’s “Wicked,” there’s something for everyone in this diverse and exciting array of releases.

In its first weekend in the U.K.-Ireland cinemas, Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” racked up an impressive opening of approximately £4.4 million (around $5.5 million) as per data from Comscore through December 23rd.

During the height of the holiday season, Universal’s “Wicked” remains captivating in its fifth week, earning an impressive £2.5 million for a grand total of £48.2 million so far. Meanwhile, Disney’s “Moana 2” sailed to third position, collecting £2 million, which brings its four-week total to £29.7 million.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been following the box office performance of two films lately. StudioCanal’s “Paddington in Peru” held strong in fourth place during its seventh weekend, earning an additional £653,489, bringing its total to a staggering £31.3 million. On the other hand, Paramount’s “Gladiator II” wrapped up the top five with £497,569, reaching a mighty £29.6 million after six weeks of captivating audiences.

6th place went to Black Bear’s “Conclave” with a total of £331,308, bringing its grand total to £4.9 million. Trafalgar Releasing’s “Ivanov/Wright The Nutcracker” Royal Opera House ballet performance earned £227,082 in 7th place. Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter” took in £171,942 in the 8th spot, adding to its total of £1.2 million. Park Circus’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” 75th anniversary rerelease made £140,143 in 9th place. Lastly, Warner Bros.’ “Red One” earned £130,014 in the 10th spot and has amassed a total of £8 million over seven weeks.

This coming Christmas, the team at Bakrania Media will unveil the action-packed Bollywood movie titled “Baby John,” featuring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff in prominent roles.

On Boxing Day, Michael Gracey’s film “Better Man,” distributed by Entertainment Film Distributors, will be screened at over 300 theaters nationwide. Meanwhile, Elysian Film Group reintroduces the beloved Studio Ghibli movie “Spirited Away” in cinemas. Other films hitting the screens are the globally successful Thai film “How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies,” an Oscar contender from Vertigo Releasing, and crime thriller “The Order,” directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult, distributed by MetFilm Distribution. Universal is also releasing a sing-along version of the popular musical “Wicked.

The week closes with “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” on Dec. 27.
