However, on the other, the frustration of watching the entire set sell out in under five hours is a feeling all too familiar to us MTG players.
Worldwide, the Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair’s Marvel Superdrop was snapped up in less than five hours, leaving fans of this Trading Card Game (TCG) unhappy.
Fans of Magic: The Gathering eagerly anticipate crossover events, especially the exclusive Secret Lair collaborations. Unlike entire sets devoted to franchises like Fallout and Assassin’s Creed, these limited-edition partnerships often capture the interest of many players. Past releases have showcased iconic characters from Dungeons & Dragons and the beloved companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, which typically fly off the shelves quickly.
In a shockingly swift turn of events, the Monty Python Secret Lair release proved to be an unprecedented sensation, selling out within mere hours. There was little doubt about the excitement surrounding this new installment of these popular collaborations.
The Marvel Super Drop from MTG Secret Lair marks the beginning of a significant collaboration between MTG and Marvel, and given its popularity, it was quickly snapped up like hotcakes. Unfortunately, problems with the online queue system during the drop left numerous customers high and dry, leading some to label it as the “worst Secret Lair launch” in history.
In the United States, the Marvel Superdrop has run out of stock entirely. There’s only a small amount left for purchase in Europe and the United Kingdom. Keep an eye out for further announcements regarding sales updates as we receive them.

Previously, Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drops were available as print-on-demand items before January 2024. However, a controversial decision was made to change this system to limited releases starting from that date. As a result, these popular collaborations typically sell out in just a few hours, leaving fans with no choice but to resort to secondary market sales, where prices are significantly inflated.
In the Secret Lair online store, the Marvel Superdrop introduced a queuing system akin to Ticketmaster, but several issues have resulted in dissatisfied customer interactions. “This new queue system is terrible,” grumbled an MTG player. “It encourages botting and scalping, making me miss every secret lair drop I’ve been eagerly anticipating.
Several potential customers expressed they had waited over four hours in an online queue only to receive a notification that the entire collection had been sold out. As one customer put it, “I was at the beginning but couldn’t log into WotC. By the time I got to checkout, everything I wanted was already sold.
In just hours after the Marvel Super Drop on MTG Secret Lair sold out, sets from this collaboration began appearing on eBay with price hikes exceeding 400%. Multiple sets from the same vendors suggest that some resellers might have circumvented the queueing system.
