Mortal Kombat 1 Gets The Definitive Edition Treatment And It’s Out Now

NetherRealm Studios has announced the launch of Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition. Much like its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition, this package comes with the main game, along with a wealth of additional content such as costumes inspired by the forthcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film. This digital-only release is available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.

On the Switch platform, Mortal Kombat is priced at $60. On other systems, though, it costs $70. If you’ve already got Mortal Kombat 1, there’s an upgrade to the Definitive Edition, but it doesn’t come cheap: on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it goes for $60; on PC, it’s $50.

Within, you’ll discover the fundamental version of Mortal Kombat 1, the additional narrative expansion “Khaos Reigns,” the two combat packs that introduced numerous characters to the roster, as well as movie-themed costumes for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Liu Kang, and Shao Kahn.

Although Mortal Kombat 1 didn’t quite reach the heights of Mortal Kombat 11, it remains an enjoyable fighting game with a fresh take on the series. In this new storyline overseen by Liu Kang as an Elder God, Mortal Kombat 1 brought several intriguing plot twists to the franchise and revised character histories. It was subsequently expanded upon in the Aftermath release, which resurrected aspects from earlier games like the return of Animality finishers for every player at no extra cost.

In the review for Mortal Kombat 1 by TopMob, Jason Fanelli noted that the Kombat Packs were particularly exciting because they introduced popular characters such as Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot, along with crossover characters like Peacemaker, Homelander, and the T-1000 Terminator. He praised the game’s impressive mechanics and captivating narrative for making a strong first impression. However, he pointed out that a limited variety of modes prevented it from achieving a perfect score.
