Monsters director refuses to meet with Menendez brothers amid series backlash

As a seasoned gamer and crime drama aficionado with a knack for navigating through the gritty underbelly of true stories, I find myself intrigued by the unfolding saga surrounding Monsters Season 2 and the Menendez brothers. The director Ryan Murphy’s bold approach to storytelling, as always, has stirred up quite the controversy, but that’s what makes it so captivating.

Regardless of the intense criticism surrounding Monster’s Season 2, its director Ryan Murphy has no intention of engaging with the Menendez brothers, who are central to the show.

Controversy surrounds the realm of true crime, as Murphy’s Netflix show titled “Monsters” has received much criticism ever since its release.

In its second season, the show delved into the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez, siblings who tragically murdered their parents, Jose and Kitty, within their residence in Beverly Hills during 1989.

The performance of Murphy’s show has been heavily criticized by the Menendez family, including the brothers themselves, as “completely wicked.” However, the director has expressed no desire for a direct conversation with them, stating to Variety, “I have no need to discuss things with them. What could I possibly ask? I already know their viewpoint.

As a dedicated admirer, I couldn’t help but wonder if our director had plans to pay a visit to both brothers at the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, similar to how Cooper Koch, the brilliant actor who portrayed Erik, did.

On September 21, a statement from Erik Menendez was issued by his wife, Tammi, condemning Murphy and Netflix for spreading “flagrant and damaging untruths” regarding the Menendez brothers.

He expressed, with obvious sadness, his conviction that Ryan Murphy’s portrayal of our lives cannot be so misinformed and incorrect without some ulterior motive.

Menendez further highlighted that the series seemed to disregard or undermine individuals who have experienced sexual abuse, given the portrayal in which the brothers’ claimed history of such abuse was linked to their criminal actions.

In reply to this, Murphy expressed, “The family’s reaction is as expected, but I’m intrigued to know their viewpoints on what they find surprising or not. Frankly, we’re not fabricating any of this; it’s all been previously disclosed. However, our unique aspect lies in presenting it within a unified platform. I wonder, what exactly is appalling about it?

Tammi and her family have a history of telling deceitful stories, as they’ve done so in the past and more recently as well. However, they never disclose what these falsehoods are. They lack evidence to support their claims.

The director was quite emphatic when he expressed his viewpoint, saying that he considers the series to be “the most significant event in the lives of the Menendez brothers over the past thirty years.

He commented, “They’ve become a topic of discussion among millions worldwide. In two weeks, a documentary will be released on the subject, available on Netflix as well. What intrigues me is the exploration of questions such as ‘Should they receive a retrial? Should they be freed from prison? How does this impact our society? Are individuals condemned for life without any chance at redemption?’ I find these issues fascinating and many others are discussing them too.

Despite the possibility that the TV show created by Murphy might provoke thoughts about revisiting the brothers’ case, the showrunner has no intentions of acting as an advocate for either Erik or Lyle. He prefers not to be involved in such advocacy efforts, stating he doesn’t support being a part of that system.

As a true crime enthusiast, I can’t help but share some exciting news! If you’re intrigued by the chilling tale of Lyle and Erik Menendez, then you’ll be thrilled to know that “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is currently streaming on Netflix.
