Monster Hunter Wilds Unveils Shocking Ancient Horror!

Monster Hunter Wilds formally recognizes one of Capcom’s grimmest and most violent ideas, leaving series enthusiasts utterly astounded.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve always found the Monster Hunter universe fascinating due to its intricate storytelling. Instead of spelling things out explicitly, it hints at ancient civilizations, abandoned ruins, and gruesome armor descriptions that shape its rich tapestry of lore.

Since Monster Hunter World and its successor Wilds were launched by Capcom, they’ve been focusing more on story development. Despite finding the lost boy storyline uninteresting and eager to dive back into battling the game’s massive creatures, there was one significant twist that left me speechless.

Heavy story spoilers will be discussed throughout this article. Read at your own risk.

The return of a true monster

To fully appreciate the unique charm of this “stunning” unveiling, let’s take a trip back to July 4, 2004. On this day, developers at Capcom introduced the first version of the Monster Hunter Encyclopedia. This book offered sneak peeks into early designs for monsters, weapons, and numerous concepts that have been kept secret ever since, hidden away in Capcom’s vault.

One fascinating idea presented in the book revolves around an ancient civilization boasting remarkable technology. Notable among their inventions is the Dragonator, a weapon capable of tearing open a massive hole even against the fiercest beasts.

Though Capcom frequently keeps the supposed “Ancient Civilization” veiled in enigma, developers have hinted at it through bits of backstory. The most significant clues are the numerous ruins scattered across the game’s settings, with Castle Schrade and the Tower being the most recognized landmarks.

Although these colossal structures are awe-inspiring, they don’t compare to the might of the Equal Dragon Weapon. It is said that this weapon was forged by an ancient civilization using the combined flesh and bones of more than thirty fully grown dragons.

Although labeled an unnatural monstrosity, this chilling idea is rumored to possess the raw power, tenacity, and weaponry of any fierce living creature. Born in the heat of the Dragon Wars – brutal conflicts between man and beast that pushed humanity close to annihilation.

I’ve made it more engaging by adding a dramatic touch and rearranging some elements for clarity.

For a long time, fans, including myself, have been eagerly anticipating Capcom exploring their darker creative realms. After twenty years since the Equal Dragon Weapon was initially revealed, it appears that the developers have decided to breathe new life into some aspects of this nearly forgotten artifact from their past.

In the thrilling world of Monster Hunter Wilds, I’ve come across something extraordinary – Guardian Monsters. These aren’t your typical beasts roaming around; they are synthetic creatures born from the ancient wisdom of Wyveria. Unlike their counterparts in the series, these artificial beings don’t subsist on consuming other monsters to stay alive. Instead, they draw sustenance from a unique energy source – Wyvern Milk, distinctly different from Wyvern Eggs. This advanced power source keeps them running!

In other words, while Wyveria utilized Guardian monsters’ abilities to fend off any adversaries that dared approach them, the capital city and its inhabitants of the Ancient Civilization were devastated by their strongest creation. Consequently, the ancestors of modern-day Wyveria were compelled to flee their homeland and live as exiles, abandoning their technological advancements. Does this resonate with you?

Similar to the Equal Dragon Weapon, Zoh Shia is the strongest synthetic lifeform ever developed and served as Wyveria’s last line of defense. If their connection wasn’t robust enough, Zoh Shia has a tough exterior shell that players need to penetrate to reveal its vulnerable areas.

Although Zoh Shia’s refined, ethereal armor stands in stark contrast to the grisly, metallic composition of the Equal Dragon Weapon, there are undeniable similarities tracing back to its gruesome ancestor, as I noted in my glowing review. Similarly, Wilds represents a synthesis of ideas and concepts that have been honed from over two decades of creative development.

The completion of the Equal Dragon Weapon is a significant event for series enthusiasts, causing me to ponder if perhaps we’re the true antagonists in this story. But never fear! I’ve got plans brewing to craft a new mighty sword and fashionable jacket instead.
