Monster Hunter Wilds’ Popularity Is Thanks to Story Emphasis, Immersion, and Cross-Play, Series Producer Says

This year, Monster Hunter Wilds has become one of the standout games, breaking records for both the series and Capcom in terms of popularity. As explained by series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, its success can be attributed primarily to its compelling storyline, immersive gameplay experience, and the option for cross-platform play.

Tsujimoto shared insights with The Nikkei (through Automaton) regarding Monster Hunter Wilds. According to the game’s producer, the primary drivers behind the new Monster Hunter’s widespread appeal are a strong narrative focus, increased immersion thanks to the game being fully voiced, and the cross-play feature.

It could come across as unexpected, but Monster Hunter Rampage actually has a keen fascination in the tale and the reasons behind the monster slaying. Apart from the obvious elements like cutscenes and a substantial number of characters, the early stages of the storyline progress fairly swiftly.

In iggn.ru‘s review of Monster Hunter Wilds, we noted as much. While the trek to the first credits roll is a little short than you might normally expect, the intent felt like a desire to have more players get through the campaign and see higher-end content.

It appears that Monster Hunter Wilds is doing well, as indicated by its record-breaking sales. In just three days, it surpassed 8 million units sold, making it Capcom’s best-selling game ever. At launch, it had over a million simultaneous players on Steam, contributing significantly to Valve’s storefront reaching 40 million concurrent users.

The popular game Monster Hunter World is set to receive its significant first post-release update in early April. This update, titled Update 1, will introduce a monster of immense power, surpassing the strength of Tempered monsters, along with an endgame location for resource gathering. While previous patches have primarily focused on fixing bugs and immediate problems within Monster Hunter World, this upcoming update promises new challenges and content.
