As someone who has battled through the darkest corners of gaming worlds, faced hordes of terrifying creatures, and emerged victorious, I must admit that the Arachnophobia Assistance feature in Monster Hunter Wilds is a game-changer for me. While I’ve always had a soft spot for giant spiders (who doesn’t love a good boss fight?), the prospect of facing off against their eight-legged brethren has often been a source of anxiety. But with this new feature, I can finally tackle the game without having to worry about those hairy legs and multiple eyes!
It appears that the fear of spiders, known as Arachnophobia, is increasingly impacting the world of video games. For instance, earlier this year, BioWare confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would be free of spiders, even though they were present in previous titles. In a recent development, Monster Hunter Wilds has been unveiled to contain spiders; however, it offers an option to swap them out entirely.
The beta version for Monster Hunter Wilds has commenced, and according to Automaton’s reports, attentive gamers have spotted a helpful feature called Arachnophobia Assistance. This game contains spiders, including some colossal ones that might make for tough boss battles. However, when the Arachnophobia Assistance is activated, all those creepy crawlies will vanish from sight.
Consequently, avoiding those battles due to the replacement of spiders with blob-like slime creatures doesn’t absolve players from confronting them. These new slime creatures are just as challenging as the original spiders. Similarly, it is expected that the giant spiders will also undergo a transformation when they appear in the game.

Not all gamers are afraid of spiders, and some might even find pleasure in combating spiders within their games. However, for some individuals, seeing realistic depictions of spiders with hairy legs and multiple eyes could be overwhelming. Ultimately, players have the freedom to either confront such fears or ignore them by toggling a switch, choosing between catharsis or pretending the creatures don’t exist in the game.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to debut on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 28, 2025. At present, PS Plus subscribers can enjoy early access to the beta, which expands to all PS5 users on October 31. Coincidentally, this is also when the beta becomes available for PC and Xbox Series X|S users. However, the beta period will conclude on November 3.
