Monster Hunter Wild Preys on Your Fear of Spiders with New Trailer

As a seasoned Monster Hunter veteran, with countless hours spent slaying beasts both great and small, I must admit that Capcom has once again managed to send shivers down my spine with their latest additions to Monster Hunter Wilds. The introduction of the Lala Barina, a giant spider straight out of my worst nightmares, is a testament to the creative minds behind this game.

In the newest update of Monster Hunter Wilds, the newly introduced creatures are not for the weak-hearted, particularly those who fear spiders, as Capcom has added a massive spider named Lala Barina, along with a fresh area for adventurers to traverse, known as the Scarlet Forest.

At Gamescom, we unveiled an exciting new trailer for the Scarlet Forest, a distinctive area nestled within the main region of Monster Hunter Wilds. Unlike other zones previously shown in the game, this one is more enclosed and lush with greenery, boasting continuous water streams running through it. However, there’s a subtle red hue to it that sets it apart.

In this location, gamers can encounter Lala Barina, an unsettling spider-like creature belonging to the Temnoceran category. The Temnocerans are typically rare creatures in Monster Hunter games, as they possess arachnid characteristics; only six such monsters have appeared in previous installments of the game.

During Gamescom, it wasn’t just Lala Barina who made an appearance as a monster; the trailer also introduced Rey Dau, the top-tier beast of the Windward Plains. Capcom hasn’t fully explained yet how apex monsters will function in Wilds, but according to a post on Sony’s blog, they will appear during a region’s Inclemency phase.

In the Windward Plains, a significant environmental event called the Sandtide occurs, which is a massive sandstorm accompanied by thunder. This ecological phenomenon will drastically change the region’s ecosystem and provide a challenging battleground for players against Rey Dau.

If you’ve been intrigued by Monster Hunter Wilds but hesitant due to the requirement of joining a group for tougher missions, Capcom is introducing a new feature called the Support Hunter system in Wilds. This system will allow you to participate in hunts without necessarily needing a full squad.

Rather than depending on just three teammates, you could enlist Non-Player Characters (NPCs) as allies for your hunting excursions. This way, you can tackle the game’s challenging content while playing solo, should that be your preference.

It is anticipated that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will be released sometime in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. For those who own a Nintendo Switch, there’s still Monster Hunter Rise to keep you entertained. If you can’t wait, take a look at all the weapons confirmed for the game so far!
