Mom given antipsychotics over fears of home intruder proven right after break-in

Chloe Spooner, 31, believed someone was breaking into her apartment in Gravesend, Kent, where she lived with her two-year-old daughter.

She discovered one day that a panel in her ceiling was open, revealing a large loft space. This loft actually stretched the full length of every apartment in the building.

She believed someone could have entered her apartment through the loft, potentially from the apartments above. This feeling grew after she sensed she was being watched while watching TV later that night.

That night, stress kept her awake, and she was startled by footsteps coming from the ceiling above.

I was so worried and confused, I started asking everyone I knew – my friends, family, even neighbors – if they’d noticed anything strange, but nobody believed me. They all kept telling me it was just my imagination, which really upset me and made me decide to reach out to a mental health professional for help.

In a popular TikTok video, she explained that people didn’t believe what she was experiencing, but she understood why. It became so strange that her friends and family thought she was hallucinating or losing her grip on reality. They eventually urged her to seek medical attention.

Spooner was eventually given quetiapine, a medication typically used for conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and severe depression. The drug made her very sleepy, and she almost lost her job because of it.

Looking back, I was just completely disconnected from everything. It’s hard to explain, but I felt… numb. I seriously didn’t care about anything that was happening around me. I remember just sitting on the couch, and even when my friends would call, I’d just sit and stare at the phone, not even feeling like I needed to answer.

Later, her biggest fear came true when she saw a man clearly opening the loft hatch right in front of her. Chloe was terrified and immediately ran downstairs to call the police. When they investigated, officers found hidden supplies, including backpacks, stored in the loft.

It turned out that one of Spooner’s neighbors, who had previously claimed to know nothing about the burglary, was secretly letting a homeless friend stay in the attic.

She explained that he was being condescending and claimed he hadn’t heard anything, but she knew he was aware someone was present. Despite this, he was kind, providing the person with food and allowing them to use his restroom.

Finally vindicated, Chloe left those flats and moved elsewhere with her daughter.

A representative from the housing department told LBC News that they have now made the loft area secure.

We worked with the police to investigate an incident, and thanks to reports from residents, an arrest was made.

This shows how important it is to be careful and aware. We ask that customers let us know right away if they have any concerns, so we can work with the appropriate authorities to resolve them.
