Molly Martens Walks Free: Shocking Update After A Deadly American Marriage Netflix Doc

Molly Martens, who was found guilty in connection with the 2015 murder of her husband, Jason Corbett, currently resides freely following their conviction. Here’s an update on her whereabouts after the publication of A Deadly American Marriage. Please be advised that this subject matter may cause distress for some readers.

A fresh Netflix documentary delves back into a heartrending real-life crime incident dating back to 2008. In this case, Irish widower and father of two, Jason Corbett, brought in Molly Martens, an American, as a nanny to assist with his kids, Jack and Sarah, after hiring her as an au pair.

As time went by, Jason and Molly grew closer, ultimately deciding to tie the knot and move their family to North Carolina. The novel, “A Deadly American Marriage,” showcases mounting tension in their relationship, with a significant focus on Molly’s quest for child custody.

The recently released documentary suggests that Jason had intended to take his children back to Ireland, but before he could, he met an unfortunate end at the hands of a baseball bat and a brick. However, Molly and her father – a retired FBI agent – confessed to the act but argued it was in self-defense, despite lacking any visible injuries that would support such a claim.

Where is Molly Martens now?

In June 2024, Molly completed her prison term in North Carolina. It’s said that she now resides in her native town, Knoxville, Tennessee. At present, she is 41 years old and is among the individuals associated with the A Deadly American Marriage case who are featured in the narrative.

According to the recently released document, she along with her ex-FBI agent father confessed to murdering Jason soon after the incident. However, during their initial questioning, investigators detected several suspicious signs.

In one account, they alleged that Jason was choking them simultaneously, which supposedly necessitated their brutal attack on him. Yet, strangely enough, neither of them sustained even a scratch, and there was no record of aggressive conduct on Jason’s part.

Furthermore, it was suspected that certain aspects of the 911 call might have been fabricated, as Molly had a track record of telling major untruths. Moreover, Jason’s children, Jack and Sarah, initially implicated Molly in wrongdoing but later retracted their statements, suggesting they may have been coached by Molly when they were only 10 and 8 years old respectively.

In the novel “A Deadly American Marriage,” we find Jack and Sarah, now fully grown individuals, who level accusations against Molly. They claim that Molly is attempting to obliterate the memory of their biological mother, Margaret “Mags” Fitzpatrick, who tragically passed away due to an asthma attack.

Immediately following Jason’s death, Molly found herself embroiled in a court dispute with his sister Tracey Lynch and her husband David, who were appointed as the children’s legal guardians, in an attempt to secure custody.

As a devoted fan, I shared in the journey as the kids headed off to Ireland, settling with their aunt, uncle, and extended family, while back home, Molly and her father faced a criminal trial. In 2017, they were both convicted of second-degree murder and received sentences ranging from 20 to 25 years in prison each.

In contrast, with new legal representation, they managed to win their appeal, and eventually, the North Carolina Court of Appeals reversed their original conviction. They agreed to a plea deal for voluntary manslaughter in 2023 and were released from prison in 2024 after serving their time.

Months following Jason’s passing, shortly after their wedding, Molly began considering ways to legally adopt Jack and Sarah. As she explains in the Netflix documentary, “I felt a strong desire to adopt them as they were very much my children.

Earlier, Jason and I discussed incorporating an adoption ceremony into our wedding. Unfortunately, many commitments were not kept, and that was a significant one we both looked forward to. Similarly, his father shares these feelings of disappointment.

After examining the letters following Jason’s passing, it became clear that Jason had been intending to honor his commitment to let Molly adopt the children. This is as David Lynch observes.

However, upon consulting a lawyer, he realized that granting her full custody of their children during a potential divorce would be too risky for him.

In that documentary, they feature Molly’s perspective where she accuses Jason’s kids of being “indoctrinated,” claiming a maternal bond with them, and hinting at the possibility that Jason was responsible for his first wife’s death – although an autopsy pointed towards an asthma attack as the cause. As a gamer, I find these revelations intriguing, adding another layer to the complex narrative unfolding in the documentary.

What Jack and Sarah said about Molly during trial

In the 2023 trial, both Sarah and Jack were called upon to deliver statements about the impact on them as victims. These statements included reminiscing about their affection for their father and sharing their life experiences while residing with Molly.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase Sarah’s statement like this: “Sarah said that the Martens’ defense team was twisting the truth. When Ms. Shannon Grubb testified about the park incident where I had no shoes on my way to school, she claimed there was a fight with my dad. However, I want to clarify that my father had left for work before we even woke up for school.

Molly had fought with Jack once more, which left me extremely agitated. Instead of taking Jack to school, Molly left him at home in a fit of anger and even forgot my shoes in the process. I was concerned that if I didn’t stop her, Molly might harm Jack when she returned home, so I wanted to prevent her from going back there alone.

As a matter of fact, some tales spun by my defense do not accurately reflect the grim reality of my experiences. If you care to know the unvarnished truth behind any narrative they’ve presented, I’d be more than happy to share with you the chilling accounts of what truly transpired.

Your Honor, for many years she deceived me and caused me great hurt. I felt like a pawn in her game. Upon returning to Ireland, Molly shared my photos on Facebook and spoke out on the radio, asking others to locate me.

Molly Martens, in a breach of trust, posted handwritten notes I had given her during our younger years, along with childhood photos, on social media platforms for public viewing. Time and again, she showed disloyalty towards me – even sharing a private note I left behind when we last met. This act was done solely to garner attention for her fabricated stories about my father.

In a different turn of phrase: “I had no way to prevent it, given the circumstances. At eight years old, I was attempting to begin anew in Ireland on day eight. Yet, she persistently pursued me. She even made an attempt to charter a plane to fly a banner over my school in Limerick.

The local law enforcement, known as the Gardaí in Ireland, were summoned to the school. For a brief period, detectives kept an eye on us and our residence, until her passport was confiscated; however, this did not deter her from attempting to reach out to me.

As a young boy of eight, I was an orphan and felt completely adrift. I repeated the lines that were given to me. These very words have now been instrumental in clearing the Martens from a murder accusation, and enabling Molly to convincingly portray herself as the victim.

Sarah stated that she never expressed a lack of love for Molly Martens, however, after Molly exploited her affection and allowed her to speak out about the abuse she suffered, Sarah can now honestly declare that she no longer loves Molly and she is not her mother.

In one part of Jack’s statement about the impact of the crime, he asserted to the judge: “Please beware, Molly Martens may appear civilized on the surface, but there’s a hidden beast beneath her facade.

She gradually wore me down with lies, feeding me false information bit by bit. Let me make this clear: My father had never physically harmed Molly Martens in any way that I ever saw. To assure you of my honesty, I am standing here today under no coercion; I want you to see the truth clearly.

The discovery of my father’s electronic devices in Bobby Martens’ home, sealed in evidence bags, yet their absence from court proceedings implies that the whole Martens family could be involved in concealing the truth about my father’s death, suggesting a collective effort to hide the facts surrounding his killing.

The fact that Molly Martens wasn’t indicted for first-degree murder, despite the District Attorney’s initial consideration, is a grave miscarriage of justice. It’s crucial that she be kept incarcerated for an extended period to prevent her from causing harm to another family or child. This thought terrifies me and haunts my dreams. If given the chance, I fear she will repeat this heinous act.

In early 2022, Sarah, who is now 18 years old, released a book about the case, her personal journey, and the Corbett-Lynch family’s pursuit of justice. Entitled “A Time For Truth,” it can be purchased from online retailers like Amazon or directly through Sarah’s own website.

Could she go back to prison?

Despite a prevailing belief that Jason was murdered, not merely a victim of manslaughter, the legal proceedings regarding this case have already taken place. Given that they’ve served their sentence, it’s highly unlikely they’ll return to prison for this specific crime again.

According to Ben Michael, Attorney at M & A Criminal Defense Attorneys, “In the legal perspective, Molly and Thomas Martens have been deemed guilty.” (Or alternatively, “The law has determined Molly and Thomas Martens as guilty.”)

In the court’s decision, both Thomas and Molly were determined to be responsible for voluntary manslaughter. While Thomas admitted guilt, Molly did not contest but instead pleaded ‘no contest.’ Both individuals argued that their actions were taken in defense of themselves.

They served their prison sentences and got out last year. As long as they adhere to the conditions of their release and no fresh evidence emerges that reopens the case, it seems unlikely they’ll return to prison.

Molly Martens’ ex speaks out

In addition to the ongoing American Marriage Tragedy, the Instagram account “Jason Corbett Journey” persists in providing resources and case updates. A recent post directs viewers to Molly’s former fiancé Keith Maginn, who wrote a book about their relationship prior to Jason’s demise, years ago.

In a chat with Extra, Keith expressed his thoughts on the second trial, stating that he regretted not being able to testify against Molly.

Throughout this entire situation, I’ve felt terribly for all those affected: the children, Jason’s brothers, sisters, and parents. It’s just ridiculous and heartless when they bring Maggie’s family into the mix as well,” he expressed.

Keith proceeded to share some falsehoods Molly supposedly told him, such as claiming she was using birth control pills when she actually wasn’t. It’s important to note that at that point in time, they had only been dating for a short while, and Molly was under heavy medication for her bipolar disorder.

She was in an unsteady state, making it unfair and dangerous for her to have a baby. Yet, she became pregnant and experienced a miscarriage. Later on, I discovered unused birth control pills, indicating that she hadn’t been using them.

Had a child been born, it likely would have faced numerous challenges due to the mother’s desire to become a parent and her belief that having children would bring her happiness.

The actions she took towards those young children were incredibly heartless, shocking even for someone like me who was influenced by love and loyalty. These kids had already tragically lost their mother, and to subject them to such treatment, spread falsehoods, implicate Mags’ family, and make baseless and hurtful accusations is hard to comprehend.
