The Yakuza games aren’t typically open to modification by fans. Yet, players have managed to come up with some fascinating custom content. However, none of these modifications appear as remarkable as the recently launched “Intertwined Fates” mod.
As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve found a fantastic modification for Yakuza 5 Remastered! This awesome addition introduces a cooperative mode, allowing you and another player to embark on the entire campaign together. One player commands the characters from Yakuza 5, while the other assumes the role of Ichiban, the protagonist introduced in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The mod is tailored for two players, but if you fancy a solo adventure, the AI takes over controlling Ichiban. It’s an incredible way to experience the game with a friend or enjoy it on your own!
The game setup is designed primarily for playing together with friends locally. However, by employing tools such as Parsec or RemotePlayWhatever, it becomes feasible to engage in online play as well.
The mod is exceptionally well-executed, not just because it introduces a second playable character (which would be impressive enough for a single-player game), but rather, it appears as though the creator has extensively overhauled Yakuza 5, giving the impression that the game was originally designed for cooperative play.
Consequently, you’ll experience more than just two-player conflicts; there are cooperative dance battles and hunting missions too. All cutscenes have been revamped to feature Ichiban prominently. This character also has a distinct set of moves at his disposal. However, the game “Intertwined Fates” is designed to be compatible with mods that change fighting styles, so you can customize Ichiban’s combat style if you prefer.
In summary, this mod is truly remarkable and leaves one with a desire for Sega to potentially incorporate official cooperative play into the series in the future. Additionally, there’s optimism that the mod creator, Jhrino, may produce similar projects for other Yakuza games – a possibility strengthened by his current work testing co-op modes for Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2.
