MLB The Show 25 to remove Diamond Dynasty feature
Although we won’t receive official details about MLB The Show 25 until January, Sony San Diego has shared significant updates on its progress. Notably, they announced that a key component of Diamond Dynasty, known as the Sets and Seasons mechanic, will not be featured in the upcoming title.
Two years after its introduction, it initially appeared that Sets and Seasons were aiming for the right objectives. However, there’s a concern that sports games featuring an ultimate team mode might negatively affect player interaction due to the gradual increase in power known as “power creep.” This means that cards distributed to players at the game’s launch are likely to become outdated compared to higher-rated cards released throughout the year.
In simpler terms, the Sets and Seasons introduced a system where powerful cards weren’t overused (power creep eliminated) by releasing 99 OVR cards at the start of the game. Instead, cards gained eligibility in each new season that lasted around six to eight weeks. However, this change made some frequent Diamond Dynasty players upset because the time invested in improving initial cards to a Parallel 5 rank for bonus abilities gradually decreased in value as the year progressed.
In either case, you would be constrained to utilize only a small number of off-season cards, or players might grow bored when a fresh season started. For the first time, MLB The Show 23 introduced Sets and Seasons, and it was refined for MLB The Show 24, but this experiment has concluded. Instead, MLB The Show 25 will revert to an older Diamond Dynasty design without these restrictions, and they’ve essentially eliminated the Sets and Seasons from MLB The Show 24 in a recent update that also lets players earn MLB The Show 25 packs by playing Diamond Dynasty in the current game.
