MLB Network Now Available as Standalone Streaming Service Without a Pay-TV Subscription

As a long-time baseball fan and someone who has struggled with cable subscription fees for far too long, I am thrilled to hear about Major League Baseball’s new direct-to-consumer streaming option for MLB Network. Having grown up watching my favorite teams on TV, I understand the importance of being able to catch every game, especially during the exciting 2024 season.

MLB introduces a novel method for spectators to pay and watch live baseball streams.

Midway through the 2024 MLB season, MLB Network in the US now offers a subscription streaming service directly to consumers, allowing them to watch without requiring a cable, satellite, or internet TV package.

Starting July 24, baseball enthusiasts can subscribe to MLB Network individually as a streaming service for just $5.99 a month. Furthermore, MLB is offering a bundle deal of MLB Network plus At Bat for $6.99 per month. This package comes with the added benefit of live game audio for all 30 Major League Baseball teams, access to Minor League Baseball games, and MLB Big Inning.

The league paved the way for sports broadcasting as early as 2002 by introducing MLB.TV’s out-of-market service. As announced by Major League Baseball, viewers in the US with MLB.TV’s all-teams or single-team packages can now access MLB Network live streaming for the rest of the 2024 season.

As a follower of MLB Network, I’ll be able to continue enjoying it through my pay-TV subscription for the 10th year in a row. With an authenticator from my participating distributor, I’ll have access to a live stream of the network.

“We’re thrilled for baseball enthusiasts to have a new method to access MLB Network directly through streaming, as viewers’ consumption habits change,” commented Bill Morningstar, president of MLB Network. By taking this path, we can broaden our audience and offer more flexibility to fans in choosing how they engage with our Emmy-winning coverage.”

Live MLB games broadcasted on MLB Network are subject to local restrictions for viewers, who will instead receive substitute programming.

Since its debut in 2009, MLB Network has been the go-to place for baseball fans, broadcasting live games and hosting various studio shows. Among these programs are “MLB Tonight,” which provides live game insights and analysis, and “MLB Central,” dedicated to breaking news and in-depth coverage. Additional offerings include “High Heat,” “MLB Now,” “Off Base,” “Intentional Talk,” “Quick Pitch,” “Big Inning,” and “Play Ball.” For the upcoming MLB trade deadline on July 30, baseball enthusiasts can look forward to 12.5 hours of continuous live coverage starting at 9 a.m. ET.
