MKBHD under fire for speeding 96 mph on 35 mph road in deleted YouTube scene

As a long-time follower of MKBHD, I have to admit that I’m disappointed and somewhat taken aback by his recent actions. With over 19 million subscribers, he holds a significant influence on tech enthusiasts like myself, and it’s important for figures of his stature to set an example.

Tech influencer Marques Brownlee has drawn criticism following an incident where he was reportedly driving his vehicle at approximately 154 km/h in a speed limit zone of 56 km/h, despite visible warnings about potential pedestrians, particularly children, being nearby on the road.

Mashable Brownlee stands out as a top tech influencer on YouTube, amassing over 19 million subscribers due to the popularity of his videos showcasing innovative technologies such as electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, mobile phones, and other exciting gadgets.

Nevertheless, MKBHD (also recognized as Brownlee) has recently drawn criticism from discerning spectators following the observation of a particular instance in a video he posted on November 11th.

The video included a short snippet that showed Brownlee driving a car at high speeds. A closer look showed that the YouTuber was going 96 miles per hour, with a sign on the road announcing a 35-mile-per-hour speed limit. Another sign also signaled to watch for children nearby.

MKBHD was doing 96mph in 35mph “careful children” zone, video wasn’t even about cars he was just flexing. I hate cars.

Despite its brief duration, viewers didn’t miss a beat and swiftly highlighted the issue, filling the comment section with criticisms directed at the creator for potentially dangerous driving behavior.

That’s a whopping 105 miles per hour over the speed limit in a 31-mph zone. In many European nations, it could mean selling the car on the spot, and facing up to four years behind bars.

Another user stated that it wasn’t a video showing he was driving too fast, which was against the 35mph limit in an area marked with ‘Children at Play’ signs.

“Damn, 60mph over the speed limit is wild,” yet another said.

This isn’t shaping up to be MKBHD’s year, as I find it hard to justify this particular incident.

Apart from the main issue that caused frustration among fans, there were also those who felt he was promoting the DJI Osmo Action Camera 5 Pro excessively in his video, even though its title indicated it was about his personal vlogging equipment changes.

In no time at all, MKBHD’s video had the driving part removed entirely, a fact he acknowledged in a comment posted on November 12.

“Cut out the unnecessary driving clip that obviously added nothing to the video,” he wrote. “I hear all your feedback on sponsored videos, too.”

Regardless of his defense, fans continue to criticize him harshly on social media platforms. Comments such as, “I recall when Marques Brownlee asserted he’d never produce a completely sponsored video. Yet, here we have an unabridged nine-minute clip, solely focused on promoting the sponsor,” can be found.

Across the United States, each state has its own set of rules, but generally speaking, if I exceed the speed limit by anywhere between 15 to 35 miles per hour, my actions could be classified as reckless driving in numerous states. The consequences can differ significantly depending on the location where the offense takes place.

In California, careless driving is typically classified as a misdemeanor, which may lead to a monetary penalty and demerits on your driving record. Conversely, in Florida, the same behavior might be deemed a felony if there’s any damage to property, depending on the severity of the harm caused.

It’s not a new occurrence that MKBHD has faced criticism from viewers this year. Back in October, there was a significant backlash against him due to his Panels wallpaper app. This application led fans to express their anger over the high price and the questionable monetization strategy for such a basic mobile wallpaper service.
