Mizkif & Tokyo Sims under fire for “disrespecting” Japanese culture

A clip featuring Mizkif and Tokyo Sims (also known as Kole) performing flips on a Japanese cherry tree, causing the sakura petals to scatter, has sparked significant criticism towards these content creators.

It’s become increasingly common for artists and travelers to face consequences for showing disregard towards foreign cultures, whether it’s deliberate or unintentional.

Johnny Somali stands out as a notable figure, having been accused and potentially facing imprisonment for multiple offenses in South Korea. Additionally, he’s had his share of mischief in Japan, which led to legal issues.

In the instance of Tokyo Sims and Mizkif, a video showing them dangling from a cherry tree has sparked much debate about whether their actions were meant as a disregard for Japanese cultural sensitivities or not.

Mizkif and Tokyo Sims do flips on sacred tree

As I rewatch the footage (since the original video got taken down), it’s clear that both creators were up in the trees, causing them to shower sakura petals below as they moved around.

Discussing the significance of blooming cherry trees within Japanese culture and customs, it’s sparked considerable interest and conversation across Japan.

Content producers Mizkif and Tokyo Sims have been facing backlash after they were seen performing pull-ups and acrobatic maneuvers on a Japanese cherry blossom tree. A social media post in Japanese, discussing this incident, has garnered more than 200,000 views.

In a notable move, Shibuya Kaho publicly expressed her disappointment when she saw individuals she had interacted with involved in such activities, stating that it was deeply saddening and felt like a break to her heart.

If you ever feel like demonstrating your strength by displaying your masculinity… try patting yourself on the back,” she suggested.

According to Kaho, Mizkif reportedly sent her several heated Discord messages, which he later removed from the platform shortly after sending them.

As an ardent admirer, I shared with Mizkif the reasoning behind local Japanese residents’ discontent towards tourists due to their misbehavior causing trouble, and kindly implored him to tackle this matter head-on, keeping in mind that it’s possible they didn’t intentionally desecrate the sacred trees.

Kaho subsequently disclosed the series of messages that indicated Mizkif’s overuse of the term “me”.

“Now this Johnny Somali account is mine, you haven’t grasped the impact on me, could you please stop bothering me?

His reaction was, “I now have issues with Johnny Somali due to your actions, and you’re unaware of the impact on me; please just give me some space,” to which Kaho replied, “What in the world are you talking about? What exactly did I say that concerns you like this?

Tokyo Sims hasn’t responded publicly.
