Miyamoto Can’t Get This Nintendo Movie Idea Out Of His Head

Although Pikmin isn’t as famous as Mario or Zelda, Nintendo’s legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto has not given up on bringing the tiny creatures onto the big screen. In the past, Miyamoto has worked on short films related to Pikmin, but now he is aiming for a full-length movie or even a TV show adaptation.

In a recent conversation with IGN, Miyamoto shared insights about the teamwork with Universal for the expansion of Super Nintendo World within Epic Universe. This theme park features numerous intricacies, like Pikmin being concealed in various spots, which Miyamoto aims to ensure are as prominent as his other masterpieces, particularly if it involves transforming it into different formats, such as adapting it for various media.

For the past five to six years, my primary goal has been nurturing the growth of Pikmin. A significant portion of this effort revolves around Pikmin Bloom, but there have also been new Pikmin game titles released. I’m curious if there are alternative methods for people to connect with and discover Pikmin beyond just video gamers, he stated.

Miyamoto stated that Pikmin has the capacity to captivate various situations due to its charm. While young children are drawn to its cute factor, as they grow older, they may lose interest in such appeal. However, he believes that Pikmin stands out because it maintains its allure for both younger and older audiences. In Japan, this has been successful, but Miyamoto hopes to extend this globally. He suggests possibilities like a movie or show could make this concept even more exciting.

Given the blockbuster success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie and its upcoming sequel, as well as the much-anticipated Legend of Zelda, perhaps Universal and Illumination might consider creating more adventures for these small heroes in the future.
