Rewatching the entire Daredevil series, though, really highlights for me how much more intriguing Bullseye’s storyline in the Marvel series becomes when you have a clear recollection of the original show. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has ventured into new territories over the past few years, not just literally with the multiverse but also metaphorically by testing limits such as its first R-rated film. This is further demonstrated by the Defenders shows being more firmly established within the MCU canon than ever before, as can be observed in Daredevil: Born Again.

In Daredevil: Born Again, the storyline has been refreshed to allow new audiences to explore the series without needing to watch all 30+ hours of the initial three seasons of Daredevil. At the same time, it ensures that viewers who have watched it before don’t find themselves rehashing familiar events. I believe this approach was a wise decision for the show, but certain plot aspects are significantly more impactful if you revisit the original series, particularly Bullseye’s character arc on screen.

Daredevil: Born Again’s Bullseye Return Is A Highlight Of The Plot

In episode 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, Foggy’s death is undeniably a heart-wrenching moment. However, introducing Bullseye in such a powerful way sets the stage for the series, giving it significant depth and impact. This escalation of action right from the start creates a massive and dynamic event that significantly impacts Matt Murdock’s journey, but also resonates with many other characters who are connected to Foggy, particularly Karen, as they grapple with his loss.

Initially, it wasn’t certain if we’d ever witness the real consequences or aftermath of the final scene in season 3 of Daredevil where Bullseye undergoes surgery to mend his fractured bones following his battle with Kingpin and Daredevil. This moment became even more impactful, making it seem as though the events involving Bullseye’s return, Foggy’s murder, and his subsequent jailbreak to hunt down Kingpin were directly inspired by Bullseye’s chaotic storylines from his comic book history. However, the experience is significantly enhanced with the rich context provided by the original Daredevil series.

Watching The Original Daredevil Adds So Many More Layers To Bullseye’s Story & His Actions In Daredevil: Born Again

Viewing the entire on-screen journey of Benjamin Poindexter, as portrayed in Daredevil: Born Again, may not offer the same impactful experience as watching the hours of his narrative unfold in previous seasons, particularly season 3, episode 5 of Daredevil. A significant aspect of this is the exploration of Bullseye’s past, which provides insights into Benjamin’s life as an orphan and his first murder committed during childhood when he used his extraordinary aim to kill his baseball coach with a ball after being benched from a game. This crucial backstory helps to fully understand the complexities of the character.

This unfolds into Benjamin’s sessions with his therapist, where he admits that his coach’s death was not an accident as previously believed. This revelation significantly deepens the motives behind Bullseye’s later murder of Foggy, influencing reactions in court and when Matt visits him in prison. The absence of remorse shown by Pondexter becomes more understandable within this context, hinting that his actions were not solely motivated by revenge as they may initially seem. In simpler terms, the way Bullseye that Vanessa convinces to kill Foggy is portrayed, who appears confused and has lost his bearings, seems to capitalize on or unintentionally tap into Bullseye’s emotional weaknesses. This could be an attempt to recreate his relationship with Mercer. However, since he also killed Mercer, it might not guarantee Vanessa’s safety in the future.

I’m So Interested To See How Daredevil: Born Again’s Future Will Handle Bullseye

In the finale of season 1 of “Daredevil: Born Again,” it’s quite clear that the infamous villain, Bullseye, is not done wreaking havoc in the show. His reappearance at his old apartment, having eluded Mayor Fisk’s anti-vigilante squad, suggests a potential return for this Marvel character. This scenario mirrors one of the captivating elements of the original series, where the complex three-way struggle between Daredevil, Kingpin, and Bullseye enriched the final episodes of “Daredevil” season 3 with additional layers of intrigue and suspense.

Given that Bullseye is back on a crusade against Wilson Fisk, it’s possible he could turn into an unwitting ally for Daredevil, similar to how he got involved in the fight against Fisk during the finale of season 3 of Daredevil. This could give Daredevil a strategic edge over his adversary. However, this also introduces more challenges for Daredevil, as both the original series and Daredevil: Born Again have depicted Matt Murdock going to extreme measures to prevent Bullseye from killing Fisk entirely.

In essence, exploring the ways Bullseye’s personality and background might influence his relationships with characters like Vanessa Fisk and Karen, and how he could evolve in future seasons of Daredevil: Born Again, appears to be an intriguing aspect. Moreover, understanding the impact of Bullseye’s experimental surgery, which remains uncertain due to the cryptic ending of Daredevil season 3, might become the central point of interest as it pertains to the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward.
