In a joint effort with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Miranda Family Fund, Tribeca Studios has introduced Colectivo – a fellowship and filmmaking program aimed at empowering the upcoming generation of Latino storytellers. Formed in collaboration with the Hispanic Federation, this new initiative offers three budding filmmakers financial support, guidance, and a chance to debut their original short films at the 2025 Tribeca Festival.
Film creators are “assisted throughout every stage of their creative journey, starting from conception to release,” as stated in a press statement. The participants will gain advice and instruction from Tribeca Studios, including extensive assistance from producer Maria Altamirano and the creative group consisting of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Luis A. Miranda Jr., and their wider circle.
Lin-Manuel Miranda stated that the Miranda Family Fund is thrilled to collaborate with Tribeca Studios in supporting Latino artists. This collaboration comes at a crucial moment when chances are being taken away from under-represented individuals, aiming to muffle diverse voices and groups.
I am deeply appreciative of everyone who put in countless hours to make the Colectivo program a reality. These exceptional filmmakers are precious assets for the industry’s future, and it’s a pleasure to be backing them from the get-go. We can’t wait to honor their achievements and exhibit their short films at the Tribeca Festival in New York City this June.
Three Latino/Latina filmmakers taking part will create their unique short films showcasing Latinx narratives or on-screen and off-screen talent. Furthermore, The Miranda Family Fellows, a group of artists and arts managers from underrepresented groups, will collaborate with each film team as working apprentices.
Tribeca has been advocating for underappreciated filmmakers, communities, and narratives for around a quarter-century, according to its co-founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal. She emphasized that initiatives like the Colectivo program are essential in providing opportunities, launching careers, and captivating audiences. In collaboration with the Miranda Family Fund, we have unearthed fresh, daring talents who are redefining boundaries on and off screen. It’s a privilege to present them at our festival.
The inaugural class of Colectivo filmmaker program teams are:
