Mining Guide in PoE, All Ores (Verisium, Bismuth, Orichalcum) Explained

As an old-timer in Path of Exile, I must admit that the latest updates have left me bewildered and exhilarated in equal measure. The Settlers of Kalguur league has brought about significant changes to the game, one of which is the revamped Mining system.

As a dedicated fan, I can tell you that Path of Exile, a game I’ve grown with over time, undergoes significant transformations with each update, making it unrecognizable after a prolonged absence. The latest major update, the Settlers of Kalguur league, brought about an array of new features. One such feature is Disenchanting that we’ve already discussed. Today, let’s delve into another key aspect of this update – Mining. This facet of the game has been just as crucial in shaping its current state.

How to Mine, Mining in PoE explained

Initially, it’s important to understand that mining in Path of Exile isn’t an automated process. Some players might employ workers with the expectation of passive income, but this is not how it functions. Instead, you need to actively participate in mining encounters and mark the ores on your maps. Once you’ve done that, you can then assign miners to specific resources within Kingsmarch.

As a gamer, I always ensure to select specialized workers for mining tasks. It’s wise to choose those who excel in just one area since each advancement in their job requires more pay. The bonus is that miners don’t need payment when they’re not actively working. However, if you find yourself short on gold, it might be beneficial to boost the Mining rank to level 11, as this perk rewards an equal amount of gold as the value of the marked ore.

How to unlock ores in PoE

To collect all five ores, you’ll need to elevate your Mining operation to at least level 6.

  1. Rank 1 unlocks Crimson Iron Ore.
  2. Rank 2 unlocks Orichalcum Ore.
  3. Rank 3 unlocks Petrified Amber Ore.
  4. Rank 4 unlocks Bismuth Ore.
  5. Rank 6 unlocks Verisium Ore.

Absolutely, some ores are scarce compared to others. Though Crimson Iron is relatively abundant, Verisium Ore is hard to come by. I’d strongly recommend improving your Mining skill to level 9 promptly. Doing so will increase the chances of finding rare ores.

According to what was mentioned, you need to locate every ore on the map and activate them. Each one has its unique method for being unlocked.

  1. Crimson Iron Ore – defeat all enemies and their spawners to claim this ore.
  2. Orichalcum Ore – kill demons to get this resource. It gives you a buff, which attacks enemies you targeted with your abilities.
  3. Petrified Amber Ore – defend the ore, as each enemy’s hit lowers the amount of potential resource.
  4. Bismuth Ore – gives an elemental hazard to the map. Do it at the end of your playthrough, if you don’t want to deal with this mechanic.
  5. Verisium Ore – channel the ore as long as you want to get more resources. However, the longer you do that, the greater number of foes appears – a high risk-high reward situation.
