A Minecraft film is currently playing in theaters, but if you’d rather explore the mines while cozying up at home, there’s just one platform where you can stream it online.
Following the enormous success of The Super Mario Bros Movie as one of the top-earning films ever made, it appears that a Minecraft Movie will likely be among the most anticipated releases in 2025.
The recently released video game adaptation narrates the tale of four unconventional characters: Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen. They are mysteriously transported to the Overworld, an odd, intimidating, and zany parallel universe composed of blocks. There, they cross paths with Steve (portrayed by Jack Black), a proficient artisan.
Although it’s currently receiving mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (with a 51% rating as I write this), the movie’s impressive box office performance suggests that it’s the must-see film this week for me. Now, I’m eagerly waiting to know when it will be available for streaming.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just stepped out of the theater where I watched the Minecraft movie! It premiered globally on April 4, 2025, and it’s currently gracing screens everywhere. If you’re a fan like me, don’t miss this blockbuster adventure!
If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet… hurry up! It appears that ticket sales have been skyrocketing in the week leading up to its release, as the movie’s marketing strategy has gained significant momentum. This could be due to the spread of memes related to the film, a leaked unfinished version of the movie becoming viral, or the high demand for its McDonald’s merchandise toys.
Where to stream A Minecraft Movie
It’s highly likely that a Minecraft Movie will be streamed on Max, as it is produced by Warner Bros and their official streaming service is where it will be shown.
Not all Warner Bros movies follow the same release pattern. For instance, “Red One” wasn’t exclusively produced by Warner Bros; it was made in partnership with Amazon MGM and thus premiered first on Prime Video. Similarly, it’s expected that “Jason Statham’s A Working Man” will make its debut on Amazon’s streaming platform.
Nevertheless, a film based on Minecraft was brought to life by Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures, who are also responsible for producing Dune: Part Two and Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Kingdom. Remarkably, these last two productions were released on the streaming platform Max.
Regarding the release date for streaming, it might hinge on its box office performance. For instance, the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel was available after a wait of 97 days, whereas Dune: Part Two hit streaming platforms in only 81 days following its release on Max.
Consequently, Barbie needed a staggering 147 days to reach Max in theaters, presumably due to its status as the top film of 2023. Hence, if Minecraft achieves success at the box office, you might have to wait until July 2025 at the very least.
Will A Minecraft Movie come to Netflix?
It’s possible that a film based on Minecraft might appear on Netflix down the line, although it’s likely not until around 2026.
Warner Bros will prioritize releasing the upcoming Minecraft movie, as it’s expected to attract new subscribers. Yet, it’s worth noting that films have previously moved from Max to Netflix after an initial run; for instance, Dune: Part Two became available on Netflix in January 2025.
There’s a break of approximately 225 days, meaning you may not find the Minecraft Movie on Netflix before February 2026, and it might even be delayed beyond that date.
When will A Minecraft Movie be on digital?
A Minecraft Movie could be available to buy or rent digitally as soon as May 2025.
According to unverified reports from Warner Bros, it’s suggested we examine the release schedules of other films. The sequel to Dune, titled Dune: Part Two, became available for digital viewing on April 16, 2024 – this was just over a month (46 days) following its premiere in cinemas.
Barbie came to digital on September 12, 2023 – that was 53 days after it hit cinemas.
It appears that a Minecraft movie will likely be available for home viewing in May, with a possible release date towards the end of the month.
