Items to bring to the fight
Before diving into the epic battle against the Ender Dragon, here are some essential items I recommend gathering before setting off on your journey. To find The End and navigate there, consult our comprehensive Minecraft The End guide. However, to give you a head start on what items will prove useful during this adventure, let me break it down for you:
1. Ender Pearls: These are essential for teleporting away from the Dragon when things get tough.
2. Bow and Arrows: A reliable weapon for ranged attacks against the Dragon. Enchant them with Power II or Punch II for increased damage.
3. Diamond Armor: Protect yourself with the strongest armor available to minimize damage taken during combat.
4. Elixir of Strength (optional): If you have a potion brewing station, consider brewing an Elixir of Strength for temporary boosts in attack power.
5. Elytra (optional): Although not necessary, having an Elytra can make escaping lava pits and flying around the battlefield more manageable.
6. Flint and Steel: Useful for creating emergency torches to light up dark areas or create temporary barriers using obsidian.
7. A Pickaxe and Buckets: To collect the Dragon Egg once defeated, make sure you have a pickaxe and buckets for collecting the End Crystals that spawn upon its demise.
To reach the peaks of the towers, it’s essential to have three complete sets of scaffolding structures. Unlike regular blocks, scaffolding enables you to ascend and descend freely, without depending on water buckets to cushion your falls from the tower’s summit. Given that I’ve probably botched the water bucket method more times than I can recall, scaffolding seems the safer choice for reaching those heights securely. However, don’t forget to carry a water bucket as well, to shield yourself from the numerous Endermen that populate the battle arena.
Carry a pile of golden carrots as a health restorer if you get hit swiftly. Additionally, take along three piles of empty glass bottles for gathering Dragon’s Breath that forms on the ground during the battle. This substance is crucial for various Minecraft potions, making it valuable to collect while fighting. To pick it up, click right with a bottle equipped when it pools on the floor, being cautious not to step into it directly.
Gather your top-tier equipment:
1. A Netherite sword infused with your chosen enchantments. For the Ender Dragon, at least the Infinity enchantment on your bow is essential, as it provides an endless supply of arrows.
2. Armor yourself fully in either Diamond or Netherite armor, again with preferred enchantments to boost your abilities.
3. If you want to bypass Endermen encounters while sacrificing some vision, consider crafting a pumpkin helmet. Wearing this mask will make the Endermen ignore you entirely.
Arrange for a bed and a storage box filled with extra armor and weaponry. Position these items beside the End Portal, and establish your respawn point on the bed prior to diving into the portal.
In the end, gather piles of building blocks, such as cobblestone or something comparable, since the spawn point in The End is unpredictable and you might land on one of its isolated platforms with no means to reach the Ender Dragon. If this occurs after passing through the portal, you can construct a bridge to connect to the main area instead.
How to destroy the tower crystals and cages
Upon entering the Ender Dragon battle, you’ll see a number of towers adorned with End Crystals at their peaks. Among these, two structures will be enclosed by cages around their crystals. To break the cages, you’ll have to ascend the towers.
Destroy all the crystals located atop the towers using your bow. Since these crystals can help revive the Ender Dragon, it’s crucial that they are destroyed. If you find it challenging to shoot them from the ground, feel free to climb up the tower using your scaffolding for a better shooting angle.
To take down the crystals enclosed in cages on top of the two towers, you’ll need to ascend using the provided scaffolding since they can’t be demolished with projectiles. Once at the peak, employ a pickaxe for the quickest method to break the cage. Keep in mind that each tower houses a cage and crystal. After destroying both the cage and crystal, either descend the scaffolding or use the water bucket to make a safe landing spot before jumping down.
Destroying a crystal that’s connected to the Dragon with a visible white beam means the Ender Dragon will sustain more damage during its attack phase.
How to avoid being killed by Endermen
Above, I suggested an unusual method: carving a pumpkin for a helmet to deter Endermen attacks. Yet, the restricted vision usually outweighs its benefits. A more practical approach would be to consciously refrain from staring directly at them instead.
Should you unintentionally gaze at one for an extended period, it may turn aggressive. Position yourself in the center of where your water bucket was previously placed, creating a safe zone. By staying within this area, Endermen won’t approach closely enough to launch their melee attacks. However, be mindful that the Ender Dragon can still employ its Dragon’s Breath attack from afar, causing continuous damage while you stand in water. Keep vigilant!
How to kill the Ender Dragon
As a thrilled enthusiast, I’m excited to share that it’s now your turn to take down the Ender Dragon! Armed with your trusty bow, be vigilant as it soars through the air, always mindful of its Dragon Breath assaults. Don’t forget to steer clear of those Endermen while you’re at it; if provoked, they can turn hostile and pose a greater threat than the dragon itself on certain occasions. Good luck, adventurer!
As an enthusiast, I’ve noticed that the Ender Dragon boasts multiple vulnerable zones – its head, body, wings, and tail. Inflicting damage on its head yields the maximum impact.
As a gamer, when the Ender Dragon settles down on that sturdy bedrock platform smack dab in the middle of the combat zone, I know it’s time to ramp up for the next round of our battle. Aiming for its head is still the best bet for causing maximum damage, but don’t forget to dodge those whipping wings – they can sure pack a punch!
To handle the Dragon’s Dragon’s Breath attack, grab some glass bottles from your inventory to trap it swiftly, or simply stay clear of it. As the Dragon’s health decreases, expect it to occasionally fly off into the sky and circle around before touching down again on its perch. Continue assaulting it with arrows while airborne, or engage in melee attacks when it lands on its perch, until you’ve finally defeated it.
Ender Dragon Drops
When you successfully conquer the Ender Dragon, you’ll be rewarded with various items. Primarily, you’ll acquire a total of 12,000 XP in orbs, which you should gather as many as possible for substantial level increases. To give you an idea, this amount is sufficient to elevate your level from zero to 68. However, if you decide to summon the Ender Dragon again and defeat it a second time, it will only drop 500XP.
Secondly, the Dragon Egg will spawn. To safely get it without destroying it, follow these steps:
- Hit the egg once so it falls from the portal.
- Mine underneath the egg and place a torch underneath the block it is sitting on.
- Break the block it is sitting on, and it’ll fall on the torch.
- You can now pick up the egg and have it in your inventory.
Additionally, this award bestows “The Next Generation” title. In every Minecraft universe, there’s just a single Dragon Egg, making it impossible to obtain more than one without utilizing custom Minecraft modifications.
Ultimately, vanquishing the Ender Dragon creates an entrance to the End Islands, granting access to items including Elytra wings and Shulker chests. These entrances materialize at various spots, resembling a group of blocks. The number of portals can reach up to 20 scattered around the main island, instantly transporting you great distances to the End Islands.
How to resummon the Ender Dragon
To battle the Ender Dragon again, you’ll require four End Crystals. Position one crystal on each side of the dragon’s usual resting spot during combat, specifically on the central block. This arrangement will trigger four rays to ascend from each crystal, rotating to indicate the summit of each obsidian tower in turn. New End Crystals will be created where these beams touch the towers. Once all crystals have been generated, the Ender Dragon will reappear.
