As a gamer, I eagerly anticipated the release of Mindseye, but unfortunately, it failed to live up to the hype. Red flags were everywhere, and I couldn’t shake off the feeling that this game might not be the next big thing after all.
Build A Rocket Boy’s project, Mindseye, headed by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, generated a lot of excitement. The buzz really started in 2022 when they gave us a tantalizing preview.
As May 2025 drew near, a wave of critical comments began to emerge. Social media swiftly labeled our project “a chaotic disaster, riddled with glitches.” Just days before the launch, the company experienced top-tier departures from its legal counsel and Chief Financial Officer. The timing of these resignations, so close to the release date, raised red flags and sent a shiver down my spine.
Deepening doubts, it appears that no prominent gaming publications were provided with review copies. Consequently, gamers found themselves lacking expert evaluations to guide their decisions.
Mindseye’s rocky launch confirms everyone’s fears
On June 10, Mindseye was officially released, and it’s clear now that the warning signs were indicative of genuine problems. The initial launch of this game turned out to be a full-blown technical catastrophe.

Immediately upon release, gamers started reporting numerous issues such as all console versions being capped at 30 frames per second, persistent screen freezes, recurring game crashes, and unsettling glitches with character faces and physics (ragdolls) which disrupted the gaming experience.

Concerningly, it came to light that there were suspicions about the game possibly violating regular refund rules by designing a significant portion of its early stages as cinematic scenes, which strategically moved players beyond the refund limit.
On Steam, a platform known for its generous return policy, you can get your money back if you’ve spent less than two hours playing a game. In contrast, PlayStation does not offer refunds once a game has been downloaded, while Xbox advises against substantial gameplay to avoid complications in the refund process.
If Mindseye spends too much time on non-interactive sequences, you might find the $60 you invested in the game seems like a wasted expense if you’re not finding enjoyment from it.
Despite certain issues, several players found delight in the game’s positive features, describing it as being more akin to titles such as WatchDogs 1 and Mafia 3 rather than GTA 6.
It’s too soon to predict the outcome for Mindseye in the near future, as we are still working on a crucial update. Whether all the significant problems will get resolved is yet to be determined.
