According to MindsEye’s management, some creators and gamers who previewed the game might have been compensated for expressing critical or negative feedback.
As an enthusiastic gamer, I’m absolutely thrilled about the impending action-adventure shooter, MindsEye! Just recently, they unveiled their latest gameplay trailer and a 2025 roadmap, which has definitely stirred up quite a buzz. Given Leslie Benzies’ involvement, a veteran developer from GTA, it’s no wonder the game is generating so much interest.
An exciting addition to the game is the ability for players to design custom missions through the built-in toolset, complementing the already immersive storyline crafted by professionals.
Although the game is set to be released on June 10, 2025, the initial response has been less than stellar. Early testers have pointed out numerous problems, describing it as a “disorganized mess,” with shallow enemies and stiff driving mechanics, among other criticisms.
In response to player feedback, Build a Rocket’s co-CEO, Mark Gerhard, addressed a query on the official Discord channel, hinting at the possibility that both creators and gamers were receiving compensation for speaking negatively about the game.
The previews for Mindseye (produced by ex-Rockstar Games producer Leslie Benzies) have been released, and they don’t seem particularly encouraging.
In a nutshell:
* It appears to be riddled with technical issues and bugs.
* The storyline spans approximately 15 hours.
* The driving mechanics feel quite rigid.
* The cutscenes are visually appealing, though.— Synth Potato 🥔 (@SynthPotato) May 22, 2025
MindsEye boss claims players are “100%” getting paid to react negatively
In the official Discord chat, Gerhard was questioned if he believed those who reacted negatively were being funded by someone. His response was a simple “100%.” While he didn’t provide further details on his assertion, he hinted that it wasn’t difficult to speculate about the party involved.
The joint CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, the team behind Mindseye, has levied charges against content creators and media outlets, alleging that they may be receiving payment from other studios (including hints towards Rockstar) to deliver negative reviews about their game.
When questioned about the unsubstantiated nature of these claims, he subsequently retracted his statements.

One possibility is that it’s suggested that this might refer to Rockstar Games, as there appears to be a common community between GTA (Grand Theft Auto) and MindsEye, and because some former employees of Rockstar are part of the team.
When questioned about it, he stated that there’s a coordinated approach behind the criticism directed towards the game and the studio.
Some individuals seem determined to prevent Leslie [Benzies] and Build A Rocket Boy from thriving, and they’re working hard to discredit the game and the studio by posting negative comments and using automated bots. It’s not hard to spot the pattern in their responses to our content.
Initially, the situation seemed intense, but as more questions were asked regarding his statements, he responded, “Actually, I didn’t make those assertions. However, I am aware that bot accounts may be responsible for posting unfavorable comments and dislikes.
In response to the user’s comment that suggesting another studio pays previewers to speak negatively about MindsEye is “exaggerated,” he said, “It’s not unfounded when it’s accurate.
