Millie Bobby Brown Slams Press for ‘Dissecting My Face,’ Calls Out Writers for ‘Disturbing’ Articles About Her Body: ‘This Is Bullying… I Will Not Be Shamed’

Millie Bobby Brown recently shared a video on Instagram, expressing her disapproval towards the media for harassing her about her evolving physical appearance. In the post, she highlighted certain articles and journalists who she feels have been inappropriately scrutinizing her looks, including her face, body, and fashion choices. She described their coverage as bothersome and invasive.

Brown penned down that they had been part of this profession since they were just ten years old. They continued to grow up under public scrutiny, yet it seems as though others struggle to mature alongside them. Rather than growing with me, they seem to expect me to remain the same, stuck in time, much like how I appeared on ‘Stranger Things’ Season 1. Because I don’t fit this mold, I am now being singled out.

Brown vehemently criticized those who seek to undermine young women, specifically mentioning certain writers and publications that have recently targeted her. She boldly read several headlines about herself, ranging from “Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown aging prematurely?” to “What changes has Millie Bobby Brown made to her face?”, which she found particularly distressing. One article in particular (“Little Britain’s Matt Lucas takes a harsh jab at Millie Bobby Brown’s new ‘mommy makeover’ look”) angered her because it not only insulted her, but also amplified the insult by questioning why an adult male would mock a young woman’s physical appearance.

Over the past few weeks, the actress has graced numerous red carpet events as part of her promotional campaign for her latest Netflix release, “The Electric State.” Last month, she was present at the film’s Hollywood premiere, and more recently, she was spotted at the BRIT Awards.

Brown voiced her disapproval, stating, “This isn’t about journalism; it’s about bullying.” She found it troubling that mature journalists spend their time scrutinizing her appearance, choices, and even her body. The fact that some of these articles are written by women makes it all the more disappointing since we often emphasize supporting and empowering young women. However, when the moment arrives, it seems simpler to tear them down for increased readership. It’s disheartening to see people who claim to support young women tearing one apart instead of uplifting her. I won’t apologize for growing up. I refuse to conform to unrealistic expectations just to please people who can’t handle seeing a girl transition into a woman. I will not let myself be shamed for my appearance, my style, or the way I present myself.

Brown went on, “In our current state, it’s far simpler to point out flaws than offer praise. Why is the automatic response often negative instead of positive? If you find this troubling, I must ask – what is it that truly unsettles you? Let’s strive for improvement, not just for my sake, but for every young girl who should be able to develop without the anxiety of being judged harshly, merely for existing.

2025 looks like it’s shaping up to be a whopper of a year for me, with the premiere of “The Electric State” coming soon this month and the grand finale of “Stranger Things” slated for later this year. I’ve been fortunate enough to be a household name on Netflix, not just because of “Stranger Things,” but also due to my hit streaming movies like “Enola Holmes” and “Damsel.
