Mikey Madison, You Will Be Poe-pular

A24 aims to achieve virality with their upcoming plague movie. Discussions are ongoing for Mikey Madison to take over Sydney Sweeney’s role in A24’s reimagining of “The Masque of the Red Death.” This classic tale by Edgar Allan Poe explores the universally relevant idea that wealth cannot shield one from death. In this adaptation, Madison is set to portray twins – one noble and one common, which can be seen as a modern take on “Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper.” As the plague sweeps through the land, Madison’s ‘poor’ character will infiltrate the secluded abbey where her wealthy counterpart has been hiding. The narrative has previously been adapted into a Vincent Price production and as part of Mike Flanagan’s anthology, “The Fall of the House of Usher,” on Netflix.

One of Madison’s first projects announced after her Oscars win is “Reptilia,” a film she signed on for last month, co-starring Kirsten Dunst. Before that, she was considering a role as a villain in Star Wars, but it appears negotiations about pay fell through. Sydney Sweeney had initially been linked to “Masque,” but the production of Euphoria’s third season seems to have caused a conflict.
